Yep, when you have to shop in the bargain base market some don’t come off and yes in Walkers case he has been a flop, it happens. In fairness to Jobello he got an ACL after playing just 10 matches so that buggered him and Hilsner got that asmatic issue which buggered him up before he started, wether that’s down to our medical people missing it not sure certain it wasn’t Robins

Even Walker, joint top scorer first season despite being out for spells including Covid, and had a terrific game against Barnsley early the next season but went off injured. On such margins are careers made or lost and it's undeniable since then he hasn't justified his place (although being dropped after scoring in successive games probably didn't help *his* confidence either!), but he's not been all bad.

I was at those two games Blackburn and Preston both away and yes he scored two good goals and was denied a blatant penalty in one but his overall performance especially the PNE game wasn’t good. I just don’t think he suits our stile of play.

But also Gyokeres, O'Hare, Hamer, Sheaf, Hyam, McFadzean etc etc
They get conveniently forgotten by those who like to have their little veiled pop at Robins, you can add Mark McNulty 28 goals and £1.5 million in the bank and not done a lot since, McCallum bought for a song from non league had two good years sold on for couple of million. Rose & Hyam bargain buys too but it seems only Hilsner and Jobello get remembered.

We didn’t get a lot back on McNulty actually and McCallum when you look at the accounts again nowhere near the headline figures

Same with the likes of Bayliss Stephenson and to a certain extent Thomas. The bulk of our transfer revenue over the last few years has been from Wilson and Maddison - the Wilson money generated in the promotion season effectively bought Hamer

Forgot Chaplin - we did make some money on him

The problem with structured deals tbf. You get a Wilson or Maddison and all is good, you get the bloke stuck in Norwich reserves, and...

(as an aside, McCallum to return to us in the close season? Robins certainly liked him)

Not seen a great deal of Eccles in his preferred position, but been more than happy with what I have seen. Reckon that the management team
In which case Hilsner, Walker, Jobello etc etc.
But they were players signed from other clubs, not ones that the Manager had watched in training every day for years. If new contracts were being offered to Hilsner, Walker and Jobello then the point would be valid.

Waghorn was a signing on a two year contract, that’s the type of market Fisher & sisu had Robins shopping in, I thought he was okay until his shoulder injury but not been great since. He will be off in the summer.
Yeah, it was all SISU’s fault.

That’s the way the game works always has just players seem to move around quicker nowadays, you mention McNulty I don’t think we paid anything like 1.5 mill but we did get 28 goals and a promotion that year.

Hilssner’s wages have cost us £750,000-what has Tavares’?
How many marketing emails would the CRM system need to send out to cover that?

Say you’re offering a £20 match ticket you’d need to sell 37500 tickets and you’re probably only going to get a click through/sale rate of something like 5% so 750000 emails. That’s not including the overhead of Gs £300 a day contractor and their intern.

So let’s take O’Hare for had no injuries until this season but has had two unconnected long injuries, torn hamstring out 2/3 months and now an ACL out 9 months+ is he now classed as injury prone when his next contract is due.

He was 18 years old four years ago and then went out on loan - how many league games for us should he have started?
Well, true and you wouldn't expect him to get many games at 18 would you really.

no idea but waghorn at 22 was nearing 100 appearances as an example

You mentioned him and my point was we didn’t get back anything like the quoted figure - Wilson and Maddison sales funded the club for years and without that money we’d no longer exist

Not sure why the Eccles deal can’t offer us value for money just because he wasn’t as good as a completely different player was ten years ago.

I don’t see why a 4 year deal is required - do you?

Jamie Vardy had made 0 league appearances when he was 22.

I bet Leicester feel a bit daft for signing him.

If it’s at a reasonable wage (i.e. a hometown discount) and we’re confident that his injury problems have been down to bad luck rather than some kind of recurring problem, then I can see the case for it. Especially with a player whose best years may be ahead of him, and will likely be easy to move on if it doesn’t work out in the Championship a la Shipley. Best case scenario you’ve tied down a player who will develop into a first team regular as early as next year. I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk, risk free deal but he’s clearly shown potential and it seems the coaching staff agree.

Who was the last player to offered a 4 year deal at this club?

So you would rather he be on higher wages than the deal we actually gave him?

what wages is he on? I’ve no idea
