Totally agree , I think he will be the ideal pivot in a 3 with Rudoni and Sheaf/Torp slightly ahead of himSome brilliant performances last season . Wolves away being one of them. He needs to drive forward more, but great tackler, and sound passer. One of those players who will improve season upon season.
Did a commendable job at RWB too.
if we’re away from home in a. tricky fixture (Leeds, WBA , Luton etc) he always starts for me.

The first break is the one that matters thoughNeither did Kemp. His dad almost certainly helped him get his first break but what he’s done after that is down to him.

Agreed, but like Sheaf and Palmer gets chances from outside the box and often misses the target, or shots end up easy saves for the goalie. O'Hare was the same before his injury. Allen had a better eye for goal before his injury problems last season. He has more natural ability than Sheaf and like you i really rate Sheaf. I think he will go further in the game than Sheaf.I think he has more potential than Ben Sheaf and I rate Ben Sheaf highly..

DeBruyne plays a lot of passes sideways and backwards. Our fans would be yelling forward at him. It was quite obvious I wasn't saying Eccles is anyway near DeBruyne level and DeBruyne isn't even a holding midfielder.Whoa whoa whoa. I didn’t want to be tempted in to bashing Eccles again but you’ve got a nibble from me with thatWe can’t go down this road of using De Bruyne as a yardstick for what our fans would be saying if we owned him. There is a monumental difference between what KDB does outside of passing sideways and what Eccles does outside of passing sideways. KDB has an insane shot on him, he can take great corners/free kicks, his skill at crossing from deep is unbelievable and his movement and getting into pockets of space is brilliant. I’d argue Eccles has none of those attributes, even at championship level.

I know you’re not saying Eccles is as good as KDB, obviously, but you said if we owned KDB then Cov fans would be complaining about his sideways passing. My point is that Eccles doesn’t do enough outside of sideways passing to make up for it, the reason people don’t moan about KDB passing sideways is because he shoots, creates chances, always looks for that threatening pass, has confidence and has good movement. Eccles rarely does any of that and that’s my main issue with him, yes he’s a more defensive player but just because you’re playing in a more defensive role doesn’t mean you can’t try something ambitious or get forward or shoot from time to time.
I think Eccles is a great player to have in our squad but like @Saddlebrains said earlier I don’t think starting him week in week out is a good thing. I’ve got zero evidence for this but I do wonder if there’s a bit of a confidence issue with him, just needs to be a bit less cautious at times and look for the killer pass every now and again.

Eccles doesn’t do enough outside of passing sideways and his defensive duties, just not ambitious is enough, if he could improve that aspect of his game he’d be an amazing player.
