What's happening?

Some fans claim he's the dogs bollocks and got applauded at training due to his performances.

Yet he seems to be nowhere near ready for championship football.

So which one is it? Cant figure him out as a signing personally

Looked good at Cheltenham, tenacious little player with good delivery.

He's obviously just very young. If he isn't considered backup here then he should be sent out on loan to get game time. Think he will develop well.

The sort of signing that would have been straight in our first team in L1 but we probably wouldn't have been able to afford.

The whole applause during training thing I think was another CET bollocks story to try big up a new signing. Didnt they keep describing Boswa as a Patrick Viera type and every article that mentioned summer signings would hint at that. Then when it became clear he was more Magno Viera, they stopped pushing it immediately. According to MR, reid found the intensity of Championship training incredibly tough.

I wouldn't be reading too much into him getting applause in training - that always struck me as the kind of throwaway anecdote that's there to fill a newspaper story

Without having seen him play, the best place to read between the lines is how we announced his transfer: TRANSFER: Coventry City sign Josh Reid!

It talks about his "potential" and "development", and no mention of the first team, which would suggest he's one for the future. But the fact we signed him for a "significant" fee suggests we're expecting results from him sooner than people like Cashman or Tavares. I expect if we'd have been relegated last year then he would be a first-team squad regular, but it seems like he's not Championship-ready yet. I think the fact there seems to be already an air of disappointment around the kid says more about our total lack of options at LWB than it does his actual development.

Being signed at 19 would suggest we might have to give him time to settle and develop.

Like most of our signings, they are young players with potential to be developed rather than the finished article.

Some will come off some wont.

I swear the level of anger that Bouwe Bosma inspires in some of our fans continues to have me baffled

You've just heard about that in this thread and passed it off as your own opinion haven't you?
Yes I’ve never seen him play as I’ve just said 🤣 I haven’t said he’s good or bad either,I do remember posts on here regarding the round of applause after training

We have Only played two games just needs a bit of time he played twenty odd games in the Scottish premier so he’s no slouch but of course championship is a step up from that. Looked okay at Cheltenham which was a tastey game. At the moment Maatsen is the better player.

My main question is why last season, we stopped him going back on loan so he could be backup, this season we seem to want to sign a backup. If we do the latter, he absolutely has to go on loan, surely? But, if we considered him good enough for backup last season, then he can't have got worse training with us... can he?!?

For me he doesn’t look anywhere near ready physically. People were slating Dacosta vs Northampton but he was trying to get forward and make something happen. Reid didn’t offer anything down the left defensively or going forward. Needs a loan.

He's shit, doesn't deserve to be given a chance.

I think you've answered your own question- "some fans claim he's the dogs bollocks"

If you're looking to 'some fans' for accurate assessments then we'll shortly be signing Scott Dan & Max Biamou to really lay down a marker & put the rest of the division on notice

Just seemed a little lightweight against Northampton. When Maatsen came on it was apparent the difference.

Give him time. I'm sure he'll develop within our set up.

They didn't play in the same positions did they?

He will clearly be loaned out as soon as a more senior LWB arrives I think. Plenty of L1 sides would be interested

They said that but he didn’t get on the the bench once, even the Millwall and Huddersfield games
