The other thing to remember is how much the attendances were under-declared back in the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s etc. (Particularly for cup games where the gate spilt would be different).

I used to see the attendances flash up
at say 16000 (when the HR capacity was about 28000) then try to see if there were anything like 12000 spaces / empty seats.

It all became obvious during the “bung” era where certain managers were accused of doing unrecorded cash deals on transfers. The cash was generated through the turnstiles and not declared as ticket sales / attendance.

Anyway, my point being that in trying to compare what the attendances were back in the 80’s to now you need to have in mind about a 25% (IMO) skim-off.
Yes I get what you say, someone told me they stopped counting at some of the turnstiles from 2.30 didn’t think much of it at the time but was told the same a few years later by a chap who was connected at ccfc admin side for years I suspect that would have been fairly common throughout.

There are still 30,000 hardcore - When the time is right and if we ever did return to the Ricoh as a member of the Premier league it would be sold out every week
I wish it were true, I can't see it myself. Yes we sold out when we returned to the Ricoh, it lasted for one game. People fell put of love with CCFC a long time ago

Hi everyone. I'm a first time poster but have been a long time reader everyday for 5 years or so. I was born in Cov but immigrated to Perth , Western Australia about 35 years ago . As well as noticing there's about 10 Cov supporters on social media from WA . Its crazy the amount of people I run into in shops wearing Cov shirts or coming up to me in mine stating the same. As I have a huge City sticker on my back window screen. I also get other drivers I don't know, honking and waving. I like to think we are everywhere.

If you don’t go to St Andrews you’re not a proper fan. ;)

Have you considered it might just be your driving? :)

Looking back to the 70s and 80s our average crowds were marginally lower to Leicester’s and they’re a one county club.
When promotion is confirmed and fingers crossed a return to Coventry I think a decent season would see a respectable 15k + attendance most weeks.
