Kelly was the driving force all match. He is not perfect but was the catalyst for all of our good play. Sheaf is useless in the final third, excellent in the middle but his distribution forwards is mediocre.
I would say you lot know fuck all. O’Hare is shot to pieces, confidence has gone.
Maatsen was wonderful going forward and Walker’s movement was just superb.
If we had our shooting boots on we would have by a landslide.

Don't think he was particularly bad, but he's a bit too negative sideways and backwards and a bit slow on the ball. He's always been a bit like that but as we rise and he ages, the gap widens. Been great for us and I'd still keep him for the squad, but feel we've gone beyond him now.

Although tbf I would've said the same about Fadz who's been one of our stand outs over the past couple of months.

He does lots of things very well but his usage of the ball just isn't up to the required level unfortunately.

Looking forward to seeing some more of Eccles soon hopefully, think he's a real talent.

Just what I was thinking. Management think highly of him. Can see him getting some game time.

Be great to have a look at him in The FA Cup.

I like Kelly but thought he was frustrating in the first half , if we are going to go from being a surprise package to an established promotion challenger we need better options off the bench in midfield .

He knows hes 3rd choice. Hes probably not on a massive wage. Excellent to gave around the squad.

He didn't have a bad game at all. But our football is on a different level now. Hes not quite at that high end championship level.

He infuriatingly slowed the game down today.
Coaching badges at city?

I heard a podcast over lockdown and I can’t remember which one it was, but it was involving Micheal Doyle. He said about he had to play through an injury to manage a game on the field, and that’s why I reckon Kelly is so important to this team. As he is in the middle of that pitch and clearly robins trusts him

Was brilliant defensively today breaking up attacks. Completely agree he is too slow on the ball and his passing range is not great. Certainly justifies his place in away games though IMO

Question marks over his place next season would he be willing to be a bit part player at his age probably not great servant to the club but think the championship might be too fast for him now

Eventually, yes. We're in no dire need to get rid or replace.

The reason why we are doing so well is because of the team spirit. Look at how many clubs have squads who are arguably better than us. That doesn't mean shit unless they're playing as a team.

Kelly still has plenty to offer, I trust Robins to make that decision when it comes.

Ideal world we keep Sheaf and Hamer and get two in who can challenge and offer different options. Let Allen and Kelly go. Might be we sell Hamer and buy three in. I’d like to see 8/9 players in and 10/11 out in the summer. Really take the squad to the next level. What is possible both ways is another question. Might need a big sale or Joy to have a moment of madness with the chequebook.
Where are we getting the money from to get 8/9 players that will better than what we have?

Every transfer at our level for our budget is a gamble to some extent. We paid almost a million for Sheaf and its taken almost 18 months for people to stop slating him at every opportunity.

We'll strengthen this summer, no doubt but let's not gut the team. The real interesting thing will be that over the past few years our big transfers have been players we've had on loan. This year they haven't really stood out.

Kelly is a really good squad player he is into his prime and does the horrible job of breaking up forward play ,to be fair still creates as well .thanks to hamer, sheaf he won't play every games as hamer, sheaf are getting near to his standard.

Jeez ...Kelly is a good player and can play at this level. He's not let anyone down . He plays the odd stray pass but they all do. Championship level is all about quality and mistakes. The premiership is another world but Kelly fits in very well at this level.
100% this!
I recall similar things being said when we got out of league 2, when we got out of league 1 and even before he’d signed as he was coming from relegated Orient so wouldnt be good enough. The bloke has lead us from league 2 to play offs in the championship so will do for me at this level.

I would like us to upgrade to the 'next level' if we are to progress but the problem is bringing in the right players is a) obviously a better class of player on a consistent basis but more importantly b) they need to continue the harmony that Robins has in the squad.
The players we have now are not the most technically gifted but they work their nuts off for each other and the team spirit appears as good as our 87 boys. The only thing that was missing yesterday was that bit of quality in the goals department because we were far the better team for tha majority of the game as we were against Brum a few others, we are almost but not quite. Kelly seems to be very respected by the players as they mention him quite a lot in interviews etc but his playing days here are starting to look a bit numbered now although still a good squad player to have ....atm.

Both Hamer and Sheaf are far superior than Kelly.

Same place we get it from every season: couple of loans, couple of frees, couple of fees. I did say what’s possible is another question. But Robins has repeatedly evolved the squad and I don’t see why next year would be any different.

Last summer we brought in: Moore, Kane, Maatsen, JCS, Sheaf, Györkeres, Waghorn who all improved the first team.

I struggle to think of a domestic signing Robins has made that hasn’t progressed the squad TBH. Just the gambles like Dacosta and Hilßner who haven’t come off.

Love it! I note that the one important whose opinion is of value tends to agree with me. I think his name is Mark Robins. Heard of him? Whereas you....
I seem to remember those who agreed with the released players in the summer were very much in the minority and you weren’t one of them.

I didn't see it this way , the Kelly bit .

Most of our good forward movement came through sheaf and Allen

Well I have the stats to show per 90 he makes more forward passes , creates more chances, wins more interceptions , blocks more , has a higher pass accuracy , has a higher long pass accuracy than Kelly.. this will be used as evidence against you in a court of law
And I will use the evidence that Sheaf is a fine player with no end product and that the manager kept Kelly on and hooked Sheaf. If we had our shooting boots on yesterday we would have buried Huddersfield and this isn’t an anti Sheaf post, more of a I am bored by the comments about Kelly which carry a nasty edge to them. Kelly is a Coventry legend and deserves more respect.

What 'nasty edge'? People are pointing out limitations to his ability that are more apparent at this level. That's not nasty, it's just pointing out the situation.
