Hat trick for Beavon tomorrow night and we all look like idiots
Oh you mean Beavon
He played the full 90 minutes on Saturday.
If it's true he's only got 20 goals in his last 160 games for us, Burton and Preston I'm not going to hold out hope of a sudden goalscoring run.
not saying it will happen to beavon - but it does happen
Look at Leon clarke
3 in 5 for us
1 in 4 the rest of his career
all at a similar level
Apologies, bbc sport was wrong on the day, it had given the wrong number for Thomas so I had assumed it was a different Thomas.
Yes, I wondered which Thomas it was
"Sprinted" He was hobbling out
We will have to agree to disagree then.
Unfortunately there is no footage is there. For me he came out running at pace and only slowed down as he approached Beavon, clearly in pain.
The keeper did come sprinting out, but then realised it was Beavon, and promptly collapsed in fits of laughter, thus splitting his sides, and was later substituted as a result.
Well I watched it intently and clearly on the replay you can see that there is no laughing.
If anybody ever thought Beavon was a prolific goalscorer they are missing the point of the players attributes.
So he's back after an underwhelming stay at Sutton. Based on recent evidence I'd be tempted to include him in the side ahead of Biamou, alongside Nazon as a front 2, in a 442 with Jones and Devon on the wings. Got to be worth a try - Biamou, Beavon and McNulty do not look like scoring any time soon.
I thought that in the second half, McNulty and Biamou looked dangerous in the second half, and both could have scored with a little luck. I think they’re worth persevering with.
Did you watch the U23 game today?
Thomas was very poor. Hardly won a header all game and his link up play was bad too. He never looked like scoring either.
Surely he needs to impress in games like these before he warrants inclusion doesn't he?
Exactly. Biamou has impressed me recently, thought he did well second half vs Barnet especially considering he was largely isolated.
Thomas isn’t the answer imo, not going to write him off, as he deserves a chance if he can earn it. But at the moment everyone else is ahead of him, in terms of confidence, form and fitness.
Biamou has been doing well bar putting the ball in the net. Had Thomas looked sharp and scored today then maybe there's a point to be had.
which evidence is this ?. Far more evidence to suggest JP deserves a shot more than Thomas.
Yeah agree.I think Biamou and Thomas are very similar, but Biamou is ahead of Thomas at this moment in time. Thomas needs to earn his place by performing well for the U23's.
The flawless logic of putting a striker who struggled in non-league, ahead of strikers who are struggling in L2. McNulty also happens to have scored 3 goals...
Why? Beavon won't score for the next century and he'll be on the bench again
Exactly - the evidence is that our current crop don't appear able to hit a cow's arse with the proverbial banjo - KT looked decent in fits and starts last season, give him a go! Otherwise WTF are we paying him for?
Thomas did nothing today. Last two times Beavon has come on he has created chances for those around him.
Come on Grendel, you are an intelligent man. Massive difference between someone no scoring and not creating chances for others and someone who is creating chances for others.
Thomas did absolutely nothing today at all. How does that warrant him a place on the bench?
I am sure most fans would be happy with Dennis Bergkamp in our team, even when we were in the top flight. Striker who scored 87 goals in 315 matches for Arsenal....0.28 of a goal per game..
Not prolific by any means but a great attacking threat and provider. I think Cyril Regis was similar a contributor rather than a finisher.
But two players that made your team more of a threat, more formidable, ignore them and they would pop one in the net. Mark them and they would pull your defence around so someone else could smack one in the back door.
Don't just watch the ball. That's my advice to really understanding the game.
We're not seriously suggesting a bloke who couldn't get in the Sutton side deserves to go straight into our first team?!?
fatso'd explode if he vaulted Ponticelli in the pecking order, anyway!
There's also understanding the game when comparing Bergkamp, Regis .... and Beavon! I think we all appreciate a good creative talent or a hold the ball up type, even someone with strength and/or movement to create space but if running around aimlessly with no end product is viewed as an attribute I'm amazed that the scouting system missed me!
Beavon would kill for a scoring record like that 283 games 52 goals nearly a goal every six games and getting worse I would call it pathetic at best.
I'd explode if he vaulted any fucker in the pecking order to be honest.
That's stretching it a bit for the vocal majority
How many strikers can we afford to have whose main attribute is not scoring?
It's 24 in the last 170 games so yes it's getting worse.
How many goals have our central defenders scored from set pieces?
How many goals have midfielders scored from free kicks?
Fans cry out for a big man up front, yet Denis Law and David Speedie both around 5' 9" scored most their goals with their heads. As well as leading the attacking line.
One of the reasons England aren't really successful at the top Internationally is because the fans are stuck in a 4-4-2 time warp.
Perhaps Beavon brings a lot to the dressing room and on the pitch. He has more experience of promotion and what it takes than anybody in our squad.
The team is still gelling and developing. Most fans would change it from week to week based on a players last 5 minutes and a computer game data base.
You can't say that. The fans clearly know better than the manager and are also privy to what goes on in the dressing room too.
And in the day to day training.
