Just doing my bit for the Cornwall tourist board who are moaning about overcrowding this year.
Been there many times but only done Lands End once, about 5 years ago and it's a big let down. Went last week to a little place near Padstow with my daughter and her family , who have never been to Cornwall before. She wanted to go down to Lands End and though I told her what to expect she simply wanted to do it because she wanted to say she'd been there. Took her best part of 6 hours from where we were on a round trip and she was disappointed.
It's a pile of crap.

The road leads to nowhere?

It must be one of the hardest places to run a business from geographically speaking. Tourists are not going to come from all directions.

Unless they have a boat.

Best thing are the free firework displays in summer if they still do them. Only twice per week so need to schedule trip but you're othewise right and it's crap. Over priced tat and food for a captive audience too.

Well yep, there's the thing, you are all but saying you knew what to expect. I looked it up and so many reviews do say it is indeed crap.

We were very close by, so went.

Wouldn't ever go again, not even if someone flew me in by jetpack.

Not sure what people expect, it’s a cliff face and the sea!

John O Groats is far worse!
I think you have to choose your day.
Went on a clear scorching day last month...walked straight through the commercial bit without stopping. Read the various info signs some had interest - like the 'Wreck log'. The views were great along the cliff to Sennen Cove...which was a lovely wide sandy beach with surfers & eateriers. Then walked back. It was a day well-spent.

Had it been windy/showers I think it would have been entierly different though tbh.

Scenery and coastal walks from there are immense

Not really I'm afraid. Ginster's aren't genuine Cornish Pasties but they're the nearest I'm likely to find outside of Cornwall.
Shame, hope you enjoy them.
We were in Swanage last week and visited the Cornish Pasty Shop. Presumably it's genuine and the queue was out the door. Bloody lovely pasties too.

I know but what do you expect? It has a shop and a cafe bit and a sign post, what else do you need?
Talking about the attractions though and that's what they big up and that's what disappoints everyone.

Should scrap the lot and start again. It's all very, very tacky.

Went to Weston super mare last weekend

I’d imagine it’s a lovely place when you get the weather

Yes but pop round to the Lizard and you can say that you have been to the most westerly and southerly points of mainland Britain.

Kind of agree...market it as 'You cannot go more westerly on mainland britain without walking off a cliff' with the walks rather than the commercial shit that most people can get within 3miles of where they live might be more fruitful

I don't know why you would go to such a beautiful part of the world and worry about facilities or attractions. Go to Newquay or something. Walking from lands end to Porthcurno still lives with me 10 years on

I think the point is that the attractions ruin the scenery. I regularly walk around that part of the world but avoid lands end like the plague because of how tacky they've made it.

Have to admit, seeing the queues, was glad I went when I did a couple of years back. Nice and deserted bar me, and glorious scenery and weather. Minack theatre's pretty spectacular too, even if the play I saw was a bit rubbish ;)

Catch 22 though innit. Who in their right mind would take a holiday to Sparkbrook after all?

Stayed in Swanage many times in my youth, and went last year for a short break. It's a nice place.

Mizen Head in West Cork is nice (that's in Ireland by the way). Was there last week - lovely part of the world. Some fantastic beaches around there too

Exactly!

Drive in to Lands End and you are immediately confronted by this tacky, horrible excuse for an entertainment/attraction centre.

Very first thing we encountered.

Nope, it's like wanting to see Buckingham Palace and being confronted by stall upon stall of pure tat before you can even get to see the place.

This Land's End entertainment bit smacks you right bang in the face and it was the first thing we encountered when we got there and our very first feeling was one of disappointment.

If you go to the opera you don't want to be having to step over lots of homeless people in order to get to your seat.

Using your analogy, stu, it's like going to a restaurant and instead of showing you to your table they stick the WiFi code right in your face first.
