82 points wouldn't have been enough in 63-64 to be top. Palace would have won with 83 points

I remember going to Selhurst Park for a mid week game in the 66-67 season. I was living in Brighton at the time and Bobby Gould scored for us in a 1-1 draw. I can clearly remember the goal. It was a typical Gould header from inside the 6 yard box. I can't really remember when it occurred in the game. But as I remember the game as a real disappointment, I think we must have led from early on, and let them score late in the game. Perhaps that then became a bad habit for the next 50 odd years!

It was indeed. I remember going on the Red House coach and it taking forever driving through London. The game was an evening kick-off as it was FA Cup 6th round day and also Grand National day. There was a sweepstake on the coach, it was Foinavon's winning year at 100-1. City had to change kit as the sky blue clashed with Palace and we ended up wearing their orange away shirts with our sky blue shorts.

City drew a lot of away games that season, mostly 1-1. With 2 points for a win the formula was 'win at home, don't lose away'. With an excellent home record it did the trick for us and many away games were real battles, like that Palace game and especially the Rotherham one.

That Palace game1967 me and the wife went early made a day of it by the time we hit the motorway it was about 10 30 so when we got to Toddington Services thought we would have a kip for about an hour abandon that idea after about 20 minutes all we could hear was City fans going into the services.(Great Days) Hear are a few names from the past team that night Glazier,Kearns,Curtis, Bruck, Clemence, Gibson, Lewis ,Machin ,Lowes, Gould and Rees

Thanks! That was it. It wasn't mid-week! And that is why I made the mistake of setting off far too early and why I also remember feeling fed up. I set off in the morning expecting there to be a bit of atmosphere by lunchtime. The place was asleep! Then I found out my mistake - not so easy to do this in the days before mobile phones. I had to kill about 6 hours. By the time I'd explored the parks and seen the dinosaurs, and drunk alone in various half-empty pubs, I seriously thought of going back to Brighton. But students then never had money and I knew that if I did go back, I couldn't have afforded to come to come back later. Anyway Gould's goal brightened things and he became a favourite of mine.

Have you got the right year ? We played Crystal Palace in 1967 on a Saturday night, reason being it was the first ever League cup final at Wembley QPR v West Brom. so our game was moved to Saturday night, Over 10000 Cov at that game.

Barry Lowe never made much of an impression on me and was soon on his way.
Brian Lewis always impressed me though. Cracking shot on him. Moved on to Luton eventually. Him and Ronnie on the wings created havoc that season.

Signing Brian Lewis was a big reason we gained promotion, a real nasty piece of work on the pitch but gave the room for Gibbo to do his magic. Didn’t play on the wing that was John Keys. Lewis did the job Kelly does but more aggressively.

No, fair enough - he was mostly employed by city as an attacking right half, but certainly spent time on the wing (and his cutting in at an angle from there was a trademark of his, often resulting in a rasping shot or a free-kick!).
Wherever he played I was gutted he left, and remember him fondly.
Great, gutsy player.

Was he responsible for that as well? Knew about the wage caps, all seater stadia etc didn’t realise he was involved in the switch from 2 to 3 pts per win.
