So Len has told the telegraph that money has very little to do with whether a club goes down.
Well, one of the brightest economists in the UK - Stefan Szymanski - would beg to differ on that point. He has used very large sample data for more than 20 years to examine the correlation between wages and league performance. Not surprisingly he finds that wages explain 90% of the variation in league position between clubs in the top two divisions. See the article below.

I have read some of Stefan's other work, which shows that the manager has very little impact on performance. That would explain a lot as we don't do any better every time we change manager.
