really depressed at the list of potential managers, all are crap but in all honesty fergie couldn't make anything of our situation! last couple of times we have appointed the list has been poor but now its dire, we may aswell save on the wage and let the players run themselves!!! give it to carsley

i pray for the day i get any good news or a glimmer of hope!

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought "Oh good. Finally someone who realises that, in our current position, we are not above managers like Brown and Blackwell." But no. You just moan that all the managers are rubbish.

We are Coventry City. We have no money. We are in League One. We have no reason to expect to get a fantastic manager. So "getting real", is accepting that a club of our calibre should expect to appoint similar calibre managers. Brown and Blackwell fit that bill.

I'd give it to either Phil Brown or Dennis Wise. They're the best two options. After that, i might be happy with Chris Wilder or Mark Robins. The rest are very poor options for me.

Exactly. You can't ask people to 'get real' and then say Alex Ferguson couldn't do better than we've seen from Andy Thorn and Richard Shaw.

Next time people shout at Chris Hussey, I'm going to claim that even Paolo Maldini couldn't play well in this team. David Bell? Leo Messi. Calum Ball? Gabriel Batistuta.

Yes we have to be realistic and 'get real.'

That doesn't mean we have to go for someone like Phil Brown.

There's being realistic and there's plain stupidity. We can be realistic and still go for an up and coming manager with a some success in the lower leagues.

Don't know why anyone would think Blackwell or Brown etc. would be any better than Dowie, Coleman or Thorn.

Who ever is the new gaffer they need time to get the players into a winning mentality. If we all get behind the team and stop the booing then maybe we might do a little better. If you were at work and all day people were on your back shouting shit at you, would you want to carry on??

Think about it. We've been in court for non-payment of rent, sold every player worth his salt in recent seasons, we on average sack a manager a season, only came out of a transfer embargo late in June after missing out on our top transfer targets, are a club in terminal decline, with clumsy opaque owners who were the first in English league football to sack the manager.

Top managers, or anyone aspiring to be so wouldn't do any better here as they wouldn't touch the place with a barge pole. That's why

Again, this isn't news. Who is saying we will get a top manager? I'm not.

You can't use the fact a top manager wouldn't come here as proof they wouldn't do well if they did come here!

Managers make no difference anyway according to you, all about the wage bill.

They should just give us automatic now.

It's totally conjecture though. My point being they're wholly unused to work with the crap that abounds here. It's like saying Barack Obama would do a better job of running the corner shop

In every sport there's a huge correlation between investment and result. Of course there are exceptions, but they're entirely that.

Argue against it if you wish, but foolishness will characterise your responses

Then again, no point in competing at all for any team, give out all the league tables at the start of the season based on wage budget.

Would save a lot of grief, though Swansea, Newcastle, Norwich and Wigan might have been a bit miffed last season, as were Leicester.

Great. Five examples out of the top two leagues. That's about one in ten. What bit of the term 'exceptions' didn't you understand?

They were just off the top of my head, plenty more examples, sure you could find them more as it seemed that you knew the wage budgets of every team in the Championship last season in order to "prove" your hypothesis.

They were all pretty available to anyone wanting to actually understand our context, and offered up on here to allow debate. Two of the three relegated clubs had the two lowest budgets

Budget used as an excuse for poor management by you though, not merely a factor, but the only factor as far as you were concerned.

You thought that nobody else could keep us up with that budget and side, I thought otherwise, but as you previously said on this thread, "conjecture".

The only fact is that we didn't change the manager, and we were relegated.

I'll humour you by answering your slightly irrelevant question. We kept our manager. They got rid of theirs, good or bad. The result was the same. We both got relegated.

We both had the lowest funding of the first team squad in the league though. I think that has more relevance than whatever point you're trying to make

How is wanting Phil Brown (a Manager who got Hull City to the top flight AND kept them up) 'stupid', but choosing some flavour of the month who hasn't managed above League 2 a great idea?

Nobody knows who will do well and who will do badly - that's what makes football so interesting.

One thing is for sure, the players need a firm hand as they're taking the piss and not giving it 100%.

I usually agree with you MMM, but I actually think this is a great job for someone looking to build/rebuild their reputation. We have a talented squad, certainly capable of promotion in theory.

We've seen how a promotion can make a Manager flavour of the month and get him a move to a better club over the summer.

I think this is an attractive opportunity.
