Dear Supporter,

These have been turbulent times recently for Coventry City Football Club. I want to start by thanking all of you for your support for this Club. Despite all the changes, and challenges, you have remained committed and continue to offer fantastic support to our players on the field.

Off the field events at Coventry have sadly dominated the headlines over the last couple of months, and I want to use the closure of the latest chapter, namely the recent withdrawal of a much hypedtakeover bid, to communicate directly with you all and address a number of important issues.

First, I want to say that I fully appreciate the frustration of supporters in recent weeks, and I also understand that we at SISU are an easy target for this anger. I have read a lot recently about people wanting the 'truth' and I wish to use this letter to set out the position we are in currently, look to the future and share the vision with you.

It is widely reported that SISU have spent in the region of £30m on the day to day operations of Coventry City over the past four years, and we have not taken money out of the Club, but continue to fund the football club. Given that sum, I think it is fair to suggest that all supporters would have expected the Club to achieve much more during this time. While there are many owners in the Championship having to cover their Club's losses, we would have hoped for Coventry to have been in a stronger position than we currently are.

At SISU, we readily accept that if we had our time again a number of things would have been done differently. Not in the money that we have invested and continue to invest, but in some of the decisions made and with whom we chose in the past to partner with. We have also been too distant, so when the relationship broke down with former executives, we have not been able to put our side of the story. We like to empower the management teams to run operations and do not take an active public role. It is clear that this business style does not work in football. Since March the agenda should have been set by the Club and owner, building bridges with our supporters and other stakeholders in the City. Unfortunately our distance has allowed others to promote their own disruptive cause, damaging the Club as a consequence. This has also undermined the good work done by the new management team to recover from past losses.

The position of SISU is absolutely clear. We are not looking to sell but have said that we would speak with any credible investors looking to be part of a partnership with us.Talks continue on a regular basis but no truly credible party has come to the fore so far.Let me also be clear that a lot of time has been wasted by having to deal with people and parties who have promised much in public, but have delivered absolutely nothing.

The new Board has been tasked with improving all aspects of the Club's operations. Many improvements have been made, although most of these are not of a headline grabbing nature. I fully appreciate that what matters to supporters is investment on the field. Those who were previously directly responsible for our football transfer policy left the Club in a difficult situation with 11 players out of contract in June leaving us to inherit a dangerously depleted squad of players. We want to see major improvements on and off the field, but like many of our competitors we are operating within a more practical and long term budgetary structure than in recent years. Money has been available for the club to spend this summer, and I am delighted that as well as goalkeepers Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn, Cody McDonald, a striker, was signed yesterday. We will hopefully also be successful in attracting some loan players later this month to help Andy Thorn. Also, despite a number of approaches, we have declined substantial offers for Lukas Jutkewicz and, as widely reported, other players, in order to maintain our commitment to compete at this level.

A working capital facility has been made available to the Club to support it through the final stage of the turnaround plan and major improvements and innovative ideas are expected in the coming months. Coventry City is the anchor tenant at the Ricoh Arena and it should have at least a partial stake in the ownership of the stadium where we play; everything possible shall be done moving forward to reach the right solution.

A football club should be a leading light within a community, a vehicle for bringing people together and promoting a City.Personally, I have enjoyed some fantastic days at the Ricoh Arena over the past four years.

In the coming weeks and months I shall communicate further with supporters and outline a wider vision for the club. This season though is one of transition, as we move towards a Club that is unified from the top down, both on and off the field of play. I and the rest of the Board understand that there is a lot of frustration right now and lots of work has to be done to clear this, so let me finish by reiterating that we are committed to getting it right for the Club for the long term.

Kind regards,

Onye Igwe

Interesting bit:

To me that looks like they will sell at the end of the season...

They only came in as a turnaround company. They get the Ricoh share and the club is worth a lot more money.

Be interesting to see how much of this is true. The first test will be getting these supposed loan players in.

There is a big dig at previous management of the club esp on contracts.

So why haven't the CURRENT management offered Sammy a new deal?

the majority of fan complaints in the past have been centred around the lack of communication.

never before have I seen such a long statement saying so little....... started nodding off until i got to this bit...
"Money has been available for the club to spend this summer, and I am delighted that as well as goalkeepers Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn, Cody McDonald, a striker, was signed yesterday. He reverted back to type here, highlighing our signings,1 average keeper,1 untried keeper and a Striker with no experiance in the Championship
ignored the players he has let go or sold for peanuts
Then mentioned offers they did turn down for Lukas and some others who's names he's forgot....yeah right
same crap different day

1. Blame RR and GH for everything.
2. After RR left several months ago, the board said that we should judge their performance from that date onwards.
Well their performance has been abysmal in terms of the club's relationship with the fans. I suppose that is RR and GH's fault as well.:thinking about:
Time for Onye and co to step up to the plate and to take some responsibility for their own failings.

The comment about "working capital facility" seems to confirm GH's claim that SISU are now using funds from bank loans rather than putting in their own money. So much for being debt free, eh. In that case, I guess that administration within the next few months is not so improbable after all.

Think they have, but he turned it down

Not "all" fans and not "all" the complaints though. It got on my nerves when fans were calling for more communication about transfers etc etc.. Why can't they just let the club get on with that. Some other stuff I can understand for some fans but I'm really just worried about on the pitch matters. Add to that, you KNEW if the club did start communicating more then THAT would get complaints too - that's what football fans do. My point is though, LOTS of fans, I think, felt that way. My opinion is it was a minority asking for more communication from the club.

To be fair, in the letter Onye admitted that they had made mistakes. Whether they address these problems is another matter...

This is what I was thinking, actions speak louder than words, so if they do get a couple of loan signings in I might start believing what they say. I'll also be waiting for further correspondence from SISU before Christmas, but I won't hold my breath!

Love the bit about eleven players being out of contract, it doesn't mention that we only tried to resign three of them and let the other seven go without so much as a whisper, however as even they say they have been a faceless organisation and the sceptics are not going to be won over by one letter so lets see what more the future brings.

As for the working capital, that would sound like some form of bridging loan until the clubs finance can be restructured, maybe a purchase of the stadium percentage followed by a mortgaging of that but really who knows.

I would agree this is what most fans are annoyed about. They set up those fan forums to be more open but all we get is a load of rubbish and ignored questions in them, maybe this chap from SISU should be attending these?

Sorry, don't agree with that. The other 8 that went weren't good enough or were too old. That's what happens at clubs, you get players that aren't good enough. There's no point having them around, collecting a wage if they're never going to play. The 3 big names that went, they wanted to.

With the exception of Osbourne I dont disagree but then you cannot make reference to them in a letter to the fans saying the previous regime let eleven contracts run down, when as a club you did not attempt to resign eight of them...thats high end hypocracy.

Andy Thorn said just before the start of the season that all the players out of contract next year had been offered new contracts.

McPake and Bell (!!) have signed theirs.

He is saying all the right things.

The protests should stop now in my opinion, not because of the below, but because there is nobody looking to take us over.
If they were this open from the beginning it wouldn’t be as bad as it is.

This part though.

“Those who were previously directly responsible for our football transfer policy left the Club in a difficult situation with 11 players out of contract in June leaving us to inherit a dangerously depleted squad of players”

Not having that, poor excuse for a small squad.

They missed the boat when they came in.The most telling sentence regards stadium ownership. We're ffff-----" without it and they w ould have to buy all of it the council will never sell half of it and should never sell to these untrustworthy city types.Oldsky blue has stated many times that taking the higgs stake does'nt generate any income, so without about 120 million cant seeit happening.

the big thing for me is that it doesnt mention clouting and dulux - apart from saying things were not done properly

I think sisu will take a more active role, reading this - and these clowns may not be part of the future -

Surely taking the higgs stake gives us some sort of control over the stadium and eases the renting costs?

what they are saying is this. We are here to stay, if you dont like it simply fuck off. Hoff is a timewasting jerk who used the press to cause damage to the club, as for a firesale you all expected? well we didnt do one so fuck you there too!! if anyone wants to buy the club they only have to make a serious offer and buy the damned thing.. easy. we will buy a stake in the ricoh, we will be more transparent but stop your fucking whining you ungrateful bunch of little spotty twats!

joking aside and sorry for the offensive language! what they are saying is MR Hoffman either put your money where your mouth is or we are in it for the long haul, oh and by the way now we know who your investors we are going to get them on board with us! you gotta love life as a city fan it certainly isnt boring!!

Ben i dont think owning higgs gives us any control ,ACL would still be in driving seat, and the rent to play has been negotiated down to afairly minimal level ,would be better not to have to pay any true. it would possibly give us a share of the stadium naming rights and i just cannot understand why we could'nt find six mill at the outset ,we would have had getting on for four million back now from the current naming rights.

Think people need to chill the fuck out a little......

WE begged them not to sell Juke........ THEY didnt (THEY TURNED DOWN BIDS!!)
WE begged them not to sell Clingan ... THEY didnt (THEY TURNED DOWN BIDS)
WE begged them to sign a Striker...... THEY did. (A PLAYER WHO ALONGSIDE ALF HAS HAD HIS NAME MENTIONED ON HERE A NUMBER OF TIMES IN RECENT MONTHS)

Now, loan market is up and running and Onye Igwe has stated in writing to all fans

"We will hopefully also be successful in attracting some quality loan players later this month to help Andy Thorn"

We have 9 days before Derby, IF there is no movement before then, MAYBE we have cause to call them every name under the sun. However I am waiting to see what happens 1st.
