I didn’t think we’d ever see appearance numbers like Kelly and Hyam have now clocked up and it’s great
Looking at oggy and shaw and borrows it’s back there with those days. Players who understand the club and are emotionally invested rather than just picking up a salary

I think extending Kelly’s and McFadzean sends out the right message to, say, 29 year olds (and I’m looking at you M James) who might be looking to sign with us.Good work extending Kelly for 2
Mcfadzean for 1
Hyam taking option.
Kelly and hyam over 100 appearances and mcfadzean 80
Means the continuity of the team is there even if we bring in 4-5 first teamers
Window already started well
Would walk into this side.Shaw was a dreadful player

Was he bollocks. Not the best in the league, but a solid player. Nice hair as wellShaw was a dreadful player
Continuity is an over rated virtue. One of the features of the last four years has been the almost total lack of it. Each year Robins has in effect built a brand new team - last season with 4 new loans plus Hamer & Walker it was bound to be, So that's 6/10 regular outfield players. Not one acquisition from the first season in L 1, is in the match day squad (Baka was the last).Good work extending Kelly for 2

That doesn’t feel correct. Signings in first team squad from league 1 last year areContinuity is an over rated virtue. One of the features of the last four years has been the almost total lack of it. All three are not good enough for the top half of the championship. You might as well keep them because we can't afford a complete team upgrade, but this announcement is not a cause of celebration, more a statement of our financial weakness.
Kelly should be 'squad' this year, and ideally (although I suspect not) so should Hyam. The case for MacF I get, let's hope his legs can do one more year. I do worry about the state of the back 3 with Osti gone.
Football is an unromantic, success driven business I'm afraid

I’m not sure I agree with you
I think it’s important to have two or three. They have to be good enough of courseLargely due to the fact they were under contract and we couldn’t afford to gut the squad. How many of those had their contracts extended last summer?
Better example is between 2018/19 (when we finished 8th in L1) and 2019/20 (champions). There are about 2 players who were regulars in both. Continuity is indeed a myth.

He was the Crystal Palace player kicking and roughing up Cantona prior to his sending off & the king fu kick. Thanks Richard Shaw for that as well as a 10 year servant to CCFC!He was competing in the top division against some of the best players in the world.
Didn't Rose, Dabo and O'hare all sign new contracts last summer? Mccallum brought back, Baka extended for one year? And since then obviously Fadz, Kelly and Wilson extended yesterday.
You’ve missed the point. The bulk of that squad were still under contract. In fact, I think of that list only Baka’s contract was technically up last summer but we had a year in our favour. That is why there was continuity between the two seasons - very little opportunity to manoeuvre.
This season is different. We had some reasonably high-profile deals expiring but the manager has chosen to renew most of them. Not sure I agree with the decisions but he’s better placed to judge than me.
The starting lineups year-to-year have tended to look quite significantly vary, though.
I think anyone who is expecting a huge overhaul of the squad is in for a disappointment. Fact is you could do it in L1 / L2 as you were mainly picking up cheap or out of contract players.
Not sure you can build a squad of genuine Championship quality players on frees even before you consider how it would impact the wage bill.
Would walk into this side.
I take your point on the whole ‘rip it up and start again’ but if I said I wasn’t disappointed at the relative lack of ambition I’d be lying. Said consistently, trim the squad numbers, slight increase on wage bill overall, and focus more on quality over quantity. If Kelly is staying (which he obviously is) then he should really be 4th choice at best.
