I understand why the question is being asked; I’m still incredibly frustrated with Saturdays result and that has happened too many times this season. However, it absolutely isn’t the time for MR to go.

My pre match posts for the last two and a bit seasons have pretty much revolved around the same point: let us play attacking football and we will win. And in short, that is my issue with MR, he is over cautious, the players are restricted and we therefore shot ourselves in the foot way too often.

Both this year and last, we have/had a team of impressive technical footballers, who when allowed look/looked unplayable at times. Even with our uninspiring strike force, if we play two up front AND MR let’s the handbrake off, we’ll start to move up the league again.

In a way that’s even more frustrating, the answer seems so simple and MR himself has clearly seen the difference it makes, yet still chooses not to utilise it.

Ultimately, he deserves our patience. But if we finish the season with a whimper and aren’t anywhere near challenging, then that patience may run out.

It's madness to talk about sacking him: 7th in the table, 5 points off automatic promotion, halfway through the season,1st defeat in 8 games, 3 league defeats all season. I'm amazed that this thread even exists. If it was 8 games without a win and we were just above the relegation zone, fair enough! But it would be a tremendously retrograde step when the manager is working on a long term project in difficult circumstances at a basket case of a club, and clearly making consistent progress year-on-year whilst improving players and the squad overall, as well as bringing in a lot of money in transfers to pay the bills.

There's no doubt if you look at the clubs last 3-4 seasons, he's stopped the rot (and what a rot it was!) and reversed it. I'm not quite sure why people think we suddenly have a God-given right to be running away with the division? Other than that we have a better team than we have for years and are playing good football-and who is that largely down to? The manager! He's a victim of creating higher expectations by being successful, if anything.

There's also no doubt that vastly more players have improved than gone backwards under his stewardship, most notably Mason, Hyam, Biamou, Kelly, McCallum, Shipley and Westbrooke (not to mention those we have sold for good money).

His two "marquee" signings this season, and rare experienced players in the squad, Godden and Allen, have missed a lot of games. Neither are fully match fit yet, both are class acts and both will make a difference when firing on all cylinders.

Finally, yes you can argue that St. Andrews hasn't affected us as "home" form has been so good, but I would reverse that thinking: it could, very very easily, have been a massive issue, but the manager takes huge credit for the superb home form: again, a victim of his own success rather than being credit for achievement, it's being used as a stick to beat him!

Yes he has his faults (he wouldn't be here otherwise!), most notably being too defensive and stubborn at times, but I'll take that over the myriad disasters that came with our previous dozen or more managers. He's the first one who has a coherent plan and is really any cop since Eric Black.

I wouldn't think about sacking him as long as we finish at least in the top half and progress can be seen to be being made, which I think it has been almost constantly throughout Robin's time in charge. If we don't go up this year, I am sure that the team will be stronger and go closer the following season, and indeed the following season after that if we don't make it up then (off the pitch financial meltdowns aside...).

We have a young team with young players. We need to be supporters, rather than be ready to lay into them when something goes wrong. This thread is about the manager, but I do think it's really important that we offer a united front. what is the point of sneering ta Sunderland fans having a meltdown, then starting to fuel the flames of a 'Robins out. Taxi for Robins' campaign? We are playing better football than in our promotions season 2 seasons ago, and playing better than last season. That, for me, is improvement. Wish we could get the away league victory, just to get that monkey off our back, but (rightly or wrongly_ I feel positive about the club. I can't believe many who travelled to Ipswich midweek would contemplate ousting the manager?

Very good post. A good summary. I think that Robins has created his own pressure becuase he has improved the squad so much this year and are a genuine challenger for promotion, hence the the critics when we slip up once in a while as we do at Shrewsbury or we draw too many.
I think that record is about to change for the better though. You can see what we are capable of. It's just waiting to click and yes Baka and co are not the answer but have been a needs must the last month or so. Godden and now Allen coming in will definately make the difference and Max has a big part to play too. Hiwula can be a game winner when on form and he has yet to come back in. Oh and lets not forget Jodi Jones!
Go talk to Portsmouth or Sunderland fans and ask how they are doing? Ipswich are a good side and a blip is inevitable. I don't beleive Wycombe or Bristol will sustain their positions and there are only a couple of other sides I sense could be a threat. We are one of the best teams in this league, so look forward to the tide turning for our strikers and being a consistent pain in the ass to the opposition.

There was a post about a month ago that Wycombe will fall away by Christmas. In the last 10 games they’ve picked up 13 points more than us... there’s only one team falling away out of the two and it’s definitely not them.

Had you asked me at the start of the season would I take our position right now, esp given the St Andrews move and numerous key injuries of course I would. Even the style of play is often great to see and far above what you expect from this level even if it does go awry at times. We're so close to being very good but it is a perpetual MR problem of scoring goals.

There are some issues we can improve on, but on the whole it's not going that badly.

Biamou is at best a third choice striker at this level. He may have a role in coming on as a sub to mix it up but he’s never going to have enough pace or ability to last 90 minutes but it’s so bad he’s the best we’ve actually got probably in that role
