They've not got hammered in either Coventry or Rugby.
Looks like both major parties are taking a hammering ! Good ! The Tories have been useless and Corbyns a chancer. They’ve both been a disgrace lately. I feel sorry for the local councillors of the big two parties, a lot of whom are hard working and don’t deserve to be connected to the pathetic mess in Parliament, as they are bearing the brunt of ill feeling. However, hopefully this sends a message, as will the European Elections in the three weeks.
Ps interesting that I believe UKIP have lost seats so far (I think) So all the people who thought this was turning into a racist nation after Brexit should hold their hands up. A majority of people in this country are decent, hard working and tolerant. They have seen the direction UKIP are travelling and don’t like it.

It does show why it'd be unwise to read too much into it. More a protest, than a positive statement.Using that same logic then, surely considering the Lib Dems’ gains you believe the country has seen the reality of Brexit and doesn’t like it?
Same!Voted green in the end.

Not at all. This is a semi protest vote against the main two parties handling of Brexit.
I think the European Elections would be a better baraomenter on views of Brexit as the new parties will be involved (probably equally as split as referendum). My point remains the same, UKIP have pushed further right and appear to have lost support (which Farage is taking advantage of). I not sure how many seats they have contested (guessing not a huge number of seats) but still good news and hopefully (I believe) a fair reflection on society
Turnout figures will show if more stayed at home out of protest seeing themselves as not represented at all. The EU elections will be more of a barometer because the angry brexiters will be motivated and have a party to vote for.
Same!

What I would say though sick boy is at least people know what they are getting with Lib Dems. They have always been clear that they want to remain and want a second referendum. They deserve more support in the Europeans than Labour

Still think that'll be a protest rather than a signpost - and that includes if Lib Dems, Greens and Change UK get more combined than Brexit Party (which is likely I'd say)The euro elections are going to be the barometer for that

Spoiled papers are also counted and recorded.Had the option of Con, Lab, UKIP or Greens. Went with Greens.
I usually run a polling station but usually end up hating the public by the end of the day. There's always a few tits who intentionally spoil a ballot paper and have to tell you about it. It's like they don't realise someone at the count who has been paid £70 for the night just sees it's been spoiled and bins it without a second thought...
On reflection I think I enjoy getting annoyed at people on polling day, will go back next time.
In my view (as a parish councillor) is that there is NO place for party politics at parish level, and debatable at District/City/Borough level. Councillors should vote with their conscience.Where i live there is a parish council run by a clique of lib dems, whilst the rest of the borough is mostly labour. End result is that all borough council ignores my town and the local parish council play this game of blaming every problem on the borough council. I can't stand the fuckers.

Presenters on 5Live this morning saying that there are "many" spoiled ballot papers, indicating people's disengagement with politics. I've looked through a few of the stats that are available, and there is little indication in my mind that there is any greater number of spoiled ballots.
Incidentally, on the turnout issue, the LibDems won Cotswold DC from the Tories, with many wards having a turnout in the high fifties percent - almost unheard of in local elections!
My extreme right wing brother said none of the charlatan parties represent his vote, so he gave in a spoiled ballot paper. He forgets that the charlatan parties represent the current majority who would vote remain, or the majority who think that the referendum should never have happened ( according to a recent poll). A march of a million, a record breaking petition and now a massive boost for the LibDem at the local elections... and still people talk about the will of the people being Brexit. It obviously isn’t.
Oh dear more Mart lies
Oh dear more Mart lies
I see UKIP lost the majority of their councillors that stood.
Won a lot of seats this time around and the constant ignoring of key environmental issues is becoming an issue despite an 'emergency' being called. They are providing a decent balance in manifestos and a little more believable than that of the big 2. A low key movement which is gaining a lot of momentum.I’ll be doing the same in the Euro elections also.
