Looking to next season (1 Viewer)

IMO we aren't going to go up now, so looking to summer and next year. What developments In the team would you like to see? How many new players, what positions? Change in formation?

For me I would like the same formation with a team like this:

Murphy(new contract needed)
Phillips/Clarke, Willis, seabourne, Adams
Baker, Thomas,fleck, new winger
Wilson, new striker
Subs: Burge, Webster, Phillips/ Clarke, Daniels, new winger, new striker, new striker.

I think moussa will go, 15 goals from midfield will and out of contract think a championship team will take a punt, need to get in someone who can help Adams while also attack like moussa could (unlikely I know).

Don't mind who between Phillips and Clarke both are able players much better than Christie defensively and good enough going forward don't really mind losing Christie.

Defo new striker for starting 11 maybe Boyd? But need someone who can be a Leon Clarke player and get a good understanding with Wilson

No need for new winger if Marshall can get fit and impress ?

Defo need two new back up strikers on perm deals maybe one experienced and one young player.

Might also need another CB just for depth and another CM as I'm sure Barton will leave in summer.

So as it stands, 2 wingers, 3 strikers and possibly a cm and cb and maybe even goalie. So between 5-8 players for me needed for depth and a squad that can really challenge.

Any other thoughts?

I don't think Murphy will stay. He's the only players still here on a Championship contract and can get more than well pay (especially whilst at Sixfields) elsewhere.

We basically need to replace anyone who leaves from now including returning loanees, apart from Christie where we've got loads of cover.

Is Baker also out of contract in the summer?

I think we should do everything in our control to keep Moussa.

Next season I'd love it if Barton finally started to shine through.....

...we've all seem brief glimpses of what he is capable of.....

...confident, happy & playing week in, week out, he could well cushion the blow of losing Moussa (which unfortunately I think is inevitable)

If Callum returns and scores 5-6 goals towards the end of the season can't see him staying. We will be at Sixfields for another season no budget to effectively compete, there will be lower championship and higher League ! teams able to offer him a higher contract. Christie is gone, Murphy may stay its players like Fleck Moussa Blair and even Baker who may also move on for the same reasons. Very difficult to maintain or develop a squad when underfunded and the club is in limbo between Ricoh & Sixfields.

But we can rely on Waggot to find us more gems who will prioritize a sunday league game over playing for Cov

I think Moussa and Christie are certainties to go, I'd like to keep Joe Murphy and Mark Marshall as Marshall in particular can offer us something different on the flanks, the reasons for keeping Joe Murphy are obvious although I do think Lee Burge will be a good keeper for this club one day.

I'd take another Central Midfielder, a Winger and Two Strikers now in the Transfer window, baring in mind we only lose the players I stated above.

I think our style of play suits us so we shouldn't change that to much but being a little more intelligent wouldn't go a miss, I was listening to a piece on The Nii Lamptey show yesterday where someone said "At the beginning of the season you knew within five passes the ball would be at Leon Clarke's feet". The reason I have highlighted this is because sometimes I feel we can pass the ball and keep it really well, but in the first half at Bristol City the penetration that went with our passing into the final third was fantastic.

Other than that as you were, wouldn't mind being back at the Ricoh either, but that unfortunately is out of the managers remit.

No he's got another year. Signed an extension with Bell remember.

If fans with decades of emotional attachment are losing faith, players with short careers must also see the bigger picture of SISU /Sixfields and look to leave if they can better themselves.

Waggot allowed Thorn to build a squad including mostly incompetent players, his latest forays into the market has shown he is not as good as we once thought. Trying to build a new squad in the summer whilst we are in limbo is going to be very difficult.

I don't think anyone can forget Bell signing a new contract.

Very "brief" glimpses !

I want to be optimistic about next season , I fear that SISU will further cut the wage bill and release some more of our more experienced assets such as moussa , baker , murphy and if offers come in for cyrus and Wilson I can see them moving along aswel.
as long as our current owners are in place even with a good manager that we have in pressley we will always be a mediocre team .
leon hasn't been replaced and with Wilson out you can see our shortcomings , you cant replace quality with loanees all the time it just isn't sustainable

Your as bad as Pressley . Clarke is right back and a sub :D

The most important thing for next season is to hold onto SP. If he goes (and who would blame him) we are very unlikely to attract another manager of his calibre to our car crash of a club.

My heart tells me we can really make a push next season. My head on the other hand tells me we blew the best chances we had this season by making monumental fek ups of how the club is run.

Our short sighted and stubbenness on the whole ground fiasco will add to our future lack of revenue which like it or not will be linked to our investment on the pitch.

They will sell anyone of any value to make up for losses. Then bring in cheap loans.and fill in gaps with kids.only fools doubt this will happen

Same Shit another year crowds will get lower as more start to give up going.

With the squad decimated and no experienced players being bought in we are not yet safe.
Dropping into league Two would be catastrophic for the Club, but sisu do not seem to care.

From the day it was announced that sisu where buying the Club the writing was on the wall,
nothing that has happened since changes my view.

Even with the fa cup run and leon clarke money the income this season is surely going to be significantly lower than 12/13 so I would guess the playing budget is going to cut again significantly during the summer.

Staying up might well be a tough ask. Hopefully this time we'll start on 0 points!

Burge, Murphy
Clarke, Phillips
Willis, Seabourne, 2 new centre backs
Adams, Haynes
Fleck, Thomas, Daniels, new central midfielder
Moussa, new winger
Marshall, Baker, new winger
Wilson, 2/3 x new striker

I'd let Barton and Webster go if we can get better players. We need 2/3 new strikers and a couple of wingers, I think Baker may be on the decline now as well, probably get 1 more decent season out of him.

Also if any of the above leave, they need to be replaced.

I fear the worst this summer as most of our decent players will be snapped up. There will be lower crowds at sixfields next season, wage budget will need to come down.

Can see the following leaving:

Murphy
Christie
Thomas
Fleck
Moussa
Wilson

I have a feeling that next season will be the shitstorm implosion that we were all expecting this season. Wilson / Clarke partnership has just provided a temporary stay of execution.
Really struggling to see what is likely to change for the better at this stage.

Lorks, tend to agree with you. Hope we're wrong. FFP will come into the picture more than now. It'll be an area where the FL will show some determination.
The introduction of two 18 year olds in the lads from Arsenal and QPR shows the extent of the problem.
Pressley doesn't want loans but his hand is forced by Sisu. They've hovered up the Clark money and the Arsenal money and there's no chance of Pressley seeing that. Most of us knew this would happen.
Sisu will just keep screwing costs down. They are probably on their last legs financially as far as Northampton is concerned.
If we're not back at the Ricoh next season the club will collapse even more.
The non existence of a contingency team at the Ricoh next season, even if merely as a tactic against Sisu, is a big mistake. Possibly condemning us fans to more football misery.

I think the title of this thread should be - I'm bored so want to feel more depressed. I been following CCFC since the age of 7. Had many moments where I wish I changed teams only to be touched by the loyalty bug. Have shed many tears over heroes leaving only to be replaced by other 'new' heroes. At the end of the day it's whether you trust the manager. I trust SP and believe he will bring in the right players to compliment our youths. So why worry about next season? I for one don't wish to hurry my life and be controlled by football. Off to enjoy the sunny day here in London with a few friends, of course I'll be checking the score but I won't let it rule my day.
