Luke Thomas recalled by Derby? (1 Viewer)

Would be a massive loss. Does it say now or January? I'll check the training photos to see if he's on there.

If he goes can see a down turn :(

Normally players on loan till the next window can't be recalled without good reason
For example due to injury or not playing

Would make sense if January but it makes you wonder if he knows he is going back how bothered he will be about us until then?

Some loan players are seen as uncommitted by the contracted permanent guys but Thomas isn't one of them
The worry would be if his head gets turned and he loses focus

That's what I meant, from what he has said he is happy to stay here and gives everything.

If he is told he is going back for a chance in the Derby first team in January, would he be as committed? :(

This is quite common with loan players who do well at a lower level. Clubs consider upping their progress by loaning them out to a League One side, lets say for 6 months, then getting them to make the step up to the Championship for the latter half of the season. It was considered by Newcastle whilst Armstrong was here.

Also, last season as a more recent case Bradford and Oxford were options for Jorge Grant during the Jan window whilst he was loaned to Notts County. Clubs also do it because they believe they may get a loan fee for said player. All in all it's probably going to be difficult to keep him as I suspect that Derby may invoke a bidding war for his services. It all boils down to whether they consider us a suitable destination for Thomas and whether he's progressed in his short time with us.

Hard to say Nick but people usually keep to their underlying personality traits so fingers crossed
He will be watched in every game by Derby so will have to keep his intensity levels up or he'll be seen as inconsistent

And if they are still interested in Bayliss

Gutted if he does go because he is our most consistent outfield player in terms of performances, even though as some will say his final ball isn't there, ahh well the doom and gloomers can enjoy this to the max

I can't see Derby recalling him unless he's needed for the first team squad. Have they suffered an injury to a wide player or has one been linked with a move?

Can't see them taking him out of a first team environment to play under 23s.

The one linked with a move doesn't look to have played anyway.

A blow but he’s not the only fish in the sea, I suspect MR is aware of what may be happening.

Unless we received a ridiculous offer I highly doubt Bayliss would go to Derby. Plus, we wouldn't base potential deal on the possibility of Thomas staying or leaving anyway. If anything that would simply be a sweetener within the context of any potential deal if anything. For instance if Derby effectively said the only way you'll get Thomas if you give us Bayliss I'd like to think we'd tell them to jog on.

Also, like above posters have stated, where's the incentive for Bayliss to go to Derby? Given their quality in the centre of the park it would be an unrealistic task for Bayliss to be able to jump ahead of the likes of Mason Mount who's currently ripping it up in the Championship. Or even if he's deployed deeper he's got the likes of Huddlestone and Johnson ahead of him in the pecking order.

Curtis Davies has just been ruled out for the season so I suspect if Derby bring in anyone, it will be cover at CB rather than spend a huge sum on a player who won't even start for them who plays in a position they don't even need. Don't forget Derby are still trying to strip their budget to be more viable with FFP. The only way they can realistically afford Bayliss is if they move someone on.

When they allowed him to play for us in the cup I assumed that was a sign we'd keep him all season, it'd be a blow if he's recalled. He's looking dangerous and getting regular football, seems a win-win for both sides.

As I said, it will boil down to whether Derby truly care that Thomas is gaining invaluable experience with us by playing week in week out, or if they wish to start a bidding war to try and get the highest loan fee possible for his services. It's something unfortunately we can't predict as it's a matter only the board/Lampard will know the answer to. I'd like to think that considering how highly they value him they would consider the former but unfortunately in the modern game that simply isn't enough as money talks.

reading the article it looks to be an opinion by who ever wrote it! Usually followed by some sort of context if its Pukka! lets see if it germinates. I suppose it would be like me saying that Derby are interested in Willis as they are looking to support their Centre Back position? could be true may not be! would start the hares running

i think the lad likes it here, he may say i wanna see season out

we shall see
I know the girl he's been dipping it in since he's been in Cov. From what I've heard, he's asked to stay for the season and Derby have as good agreed.
Even if not to play football, he'd be stupid to head back because the girl in question is banging. When you talk about punching above your own, it'd literally be like Amir Khan fighting Mike Tyson.

So once he leaves Coventry, he's never allowed to make the 45 minute drive to get back here? I've driven 8 hours on the premise of pussy before.....

Do Liverpool have a recall clause on Wilson? If they do I guess a lot will depend on that.

Bayliss supports Derby I believe and isn’t his girlfriend from there? No way would I swap him for Thomas though unless there was a couple of million on top.

When did we last have a very successful January transfer window ?! I'm sure it's often signified a downgrade in our squad not the other way round.

There was talk a few backs that Lampard was considering keeping Thomas at Derby after his loan expired, due to them having a couple of first teamers out injured.

Would very much rather he stayed but might force us to play a more cohesive style if does go back, instead of just relying on his pace to cover for all the underlying issues in our game plan.
