It's a gamble & never say never but I struggle to see the potential personally.
I know Huddersfield have had great success in similar markets with the likes of Sorba Thomas but that was very different. Thomas stood out like a sore thumb with clear qualities that would pretty much guarantee him success higher up the pyramid. Hudlin was 3rd/4th choice striker at Solihull.

As I said previously, Huddersfield's plan with Hudlin is to loan him out to League 2 initially if they can find a suitable club. I'm not convinced he has enough about him technically to make that step let alone be a Championship player but it will be the acid test I suppose.

It's not quite the cheap punt you might suspect either, Hudlin has been given a very lucrative contract considering where he's come from.

I don’t think it’s your suggestion of having a target man as an option as this is a very valid point and would be a handy plan B. I think it was the keen suggestion of Hudlin, who is frankly barely non league level, let alone Championship.

Hyam, Fadz, Rose, Doyle, Panzo, Bidwell who can also play in the back 3 at LCB. That feels as deep as last season as we have only lost JCS and have replaced him with 2 players who can comfortably play that his role. If there is a clear upgrade possible of course we should take it however.
Last season goals and not taking our chances was a bigger issue given our expected vs actual goals per game. I would be far keener to see us trade Waghorn and use his wages for a player who can operate across across the top positions on the pitch.

His agent deserves so much credit for how he has marketed him, proper cart horse the times I've seen him but fair play to the lad for getting the move

I guess I do kind of see Philosopher's argument that he's a late developer and full time training will improve him.

Then again I went to uni and was shit at football, and no league club wanted to sign me!

Totally right & I'm not against the notion of taking players from Non-League, there's lots of great success stories & it is an avenue that is definitely overlooked.
Having seen a fair bit of Hudlin though I'm not convinced he's going to be one of them, especially at the costs we're talking. There's been better moves this summer alone - Ollie Tanner to Cardiff for example.

Wasn't Lewes where we got one of our headline signings froma few years' back? ;) I thought we'd had a reasonable relationship with them at that point, so am guessing that either disappeared, or Tanner was on our radar and we either decided against it, or got outbid?

Yeah, that was down to the finances not working for him, had a decent job iirc and played part time. There’s plenty of cases like that in non league where they could play higher

Yep. A young lad I've watched extensively turned down Brentford to stay in Step 3 last season.

Yeah. He's still a young lad & came out of another Premier League's Academy where he'd been since the age of 8. He's commited to proving himself in the men's game & is a confident boy knowing that an opportunity will come again if he continues progressing.
Kudos to him in my eyes.
