Madine deal hits snags (1 Viewer)

Guess it's a gamble on nobody wanting him. To be fair he hasn't set the world on fire while he's been here so that strategy could work. Can't see any reason for them not to extend his loan if they don't have another buyer lined up.

Bodes well for any negotiations about Kirkland with the same club:facepalm: although having had Maguire as well they must all know each other quite well by now!

His scoring record is pretty dire actually

he is only 24, and has only had one real full season at our current level when he was 21. He scored 18 in 38.

Appreciate that he didn't do as well at Championship level, but my point would be, if the fee was, lets say £100k, if he has a similar run in the next season / season and a half, he would be worth more than what we pay for him, you don't agree ?

That's his one good season. Prior to that he'd scored 18 in 87 league one games.

He's not mcgoldrick Clarke or Wilson. I suspect they will try abd get £250,000 for him and suggestion us he's on that much a year in wages .

Agreed. McGoldrick scored 21 in 131 games before joining us. I know many of these were in a higher league.

Madine was playing 1st team games when he was 17 years old. He is a different player from what he was 7 years ago. I would like to see him in a 2 with a quicker striker alongside him ideally.

In a higher division - a division which maiden managed how many? One in every 11 played?

I'd be disappointed if we don't sign him. He's the type of target man we need to play off.

I think Wednesday will try and get a fee for him. To be fair he seems keen enough to stay and I suspect will if a championship club doesn't want him as a back up squad player.

which i acknowledged.

In my opinion, £250k for a 24 year old striker who has done well in this league wouldnt represent a gamble for SISU

Usual sisu don't want pay for anything...fisher probably spends more each year on dog food than what they want to offer Sheffield Wednesday

Most clubs in this league have no transfer budget. So would the few that have want to pay, by no means obvious.

How has he shined that somebody in a higher league would have a punt?

Didn't they do something similar prior to signing Clarke? Got him on loan, extended it a little to allow for further negotiations to take place?

Nah the loan was just to get it through and done in time so he could play for the new years day fixture we had that year I think, I think it had already been agreed with Clarke.

The year before he went to Wednesday he did very well for a spell with Carlisle I recall hence why he got the move to Wednesday. Think they paid a bit of money for him. The loan extension actually might be a very shrewd move for all concerned. The only clubs which might gazump us are top League 1 clubs fighting for promotion I suspect.

I think when we want something not paying the asking price tends to go well for us.
Lets stick to that plan

What if the asking price is too high? Should we just pay it anyway?

What if they say £2m (I know they won't) but that's the asking price, should we just pay it?

He's free to talk to clubs in January anyway, Sheffield Wednesday don't want him so should be thankful to get him off their wage bill 6 months earlier, I can't see anyone in our league shelling out on him.

How about arranging something creative like we'll pay them $1000 for every goal he scores and if we sell him at a profit, they get 25% of the fee. If we get promoted this season, we owe them an extra $100,000 (pretty safe there).
Let's face it, if he goes, we can kiss goodbye to a few hundred more supporters and may well get relegated.

Don't be so melodramatic.

No we should not pay it. We should come up with a cunning plan to pay nothing as I say always works normally

Like every other club in league one with a couple of exceptions you mean?

I think Gary Madine is a free agent in the summer so I believe he is free to negotiate a move elsewhere, as for a fee at the very least Madine will want a signing on fee. My guess he has an idea now where he is heading and I doubt it is here. Yet again we will find we are used as a shop window as we were with Maguire and Dagnall
