Short answer is no with the exceptions being JH and JS. I was also a big fan of the Gordon Milne teams.
I just wish we'd had MR vs. Big Ron and Strachan in the crazy spending days. Big Ron was a disaster and was only here on a fast diminishing reputation, Strachan seemed to always play his favourites, never addressed the defensive issues and 100% failed to evolve the team. And employed sub standard coaches.
On the other hand, MR is ruthless season over season and consistently evolves both his coaching staff and team.
And anyone on here calling for taxis for Robins on the basis of a temporary run of poor form - I'd ban for life.
I've supported the club through all those managers and without a doubt Robins surpasses all of them because none of them had to deal with the kind of shite he has had to put up with.Well I go back as far as Noel Cantwell. He took us to 6th in the top flight and Europe. Gordon Milne 7th, George and John won the FA Cup. Jimmy Hill so far has to be our greatest ever manager but if Mark Robins takes us to the Premier League given what he started with and what he’s had to contend with then I think he surpasses the great man.

He’s been after Coleman the best supported manager with Sisu by a considerable distance. He also thrives on clubs moving grounds strangely - Milne had to put up with all the clubs money blown on the US experiment - even Gould had the guts taken out the club - it was disappearing down the plug hole when Sillett took over - many managers kept the club in the top division against insurmountable odds which in itself was a huge achievement
You do realise this season the quality of SISU’s support amounted to a player being sold to address a cash flow problem they refused to fix themselves…
Looking back Milne was a fantastic manager well ahead of his time.
Actually that is exactly my point and he was supported in the lower leagues far far more than most managers we had historically
hill sold Garry Thompson under Milne nose and told him he’d got zero money to replace him with - nothing.
You can’t possibly compare Milne or even Gould trying to compete with Liverpool arsenal etc every season Against a manager whose signed relatively priced players in the divisions he’s in
Compare Goulds resources to his in that first season he took over and there’s no comparison - he had a rag tag bunch of Lower league on non league players to survive
The only I guess comparison you can make is how we do in this league against the managers pre 1994 as none of them had the luxury of being a bigger club in a small league
Looking back Milne was a fantastic manager well ahead of his time.
some people cant accept when they are wrong - I think this is one of those, and boy has he properly fucked upIt just surprises me the lengths you go to in order to play down what Robins has managed. As you well know and have argued before, he was allowed to spend in the lower leagues through the Maddison and Wilson sales-and SISU still helped themselves to cash in that time.
He has done brilliantly, there can’t be much dispute there

even in league 1 we had a mid table budget
in the championship we started with a bottom 2 budget - sometimes not sure if he is on the wind up though, as cant think he believes it
Its a discussion from an historical perspective
I guess you’d want an AI bot to write it and just say Noel Cantwell was the best manager the club ever had
2 years after we had sold one of the most expensive players in british history - anybody can play with statisticsWhat budget did we have when we were in the top flight? Let’s look at 1983?

Lol this has got to be up there with some of your best workHe also thrives on clubs moving grounds strangely
Tbf, Robins also had an impressive rescue with Rotherham when they went to the Don ValleyLol this has got to be up there with some of your best work
We would have had a job considering we were in L1
You'd have to also acknowledge that the difference between the biggest and smallest spenders / wage bills was infact Nowhere near that of today , at a time where agents didn't exist and a footballer was said pennies compared to today .. different world grendelWhat budget did we have when we were in the top flight? Let’s look at 1983?
More deflection as usual. Has Robins done an excellent job-yes or no?
