According to some research I read (but cannot remember where) typically managers are effective for up to 3 years and thereafter players lose incentive. Some notable exceptions to that. But even so if you look at someone like Mourinho or Hodgson it makes sense. So we have had 15 months so we are good for a while.

We'll dump him when we look close to getting into the Champions League.

I've suspected that might be because players get complacent with the same manager and get a bit lazy if they have a good rapport with them. Maybe the manager needs to be more ruthless and daring in having higher player turnover and even if a player they like managing drops off a bit they're out the door to keep everyone busting a gut. Takes quite a personality to do that though (and I put JH in that bracket)

Stats aside, here is what I know for sure...

- first cup competition win since 87
- first promotion of any kind in my life time
- great team spirit and people want to play for us
- most positive vibe ( in the face of adversity with Sisu ) in my kids history of supporting Cov - they are proud to say the support cov
- he’s got sky blue blood running through his veins LOL ( sorry couldn’t resist )

Ps - I don’t believe the 3 year stat rings true , or as true. If you are getting promoted and building a new team for a new league. For a team that stays in the same league for a few years maybe

Well out of date.

His record in his 2nd spell is P88 W41 D16 L31. Win ratio 46.6%

Incidentally his combined record over both spells is P121 W58 D22 L41. Win ratio 47.9%.

The combined stats put him in 2nd place of most successful CCFC managers ever (where there is data available), behind George Curtis (50%) and above Eric Black (45.45%)

That won't really count for us as our player turnover is massive. He will have the positive effect on our players over a much longer period if the average time a player stays with us is 2 years. We signed a lot of players on 2 year deals at the start of last season. Most of them will now only have 8 months left. Some need to be offered new contracts sharpish.

Stats up-to-date for all 92 league clubs and 5 national teams at close of play on Thursday 25th October 2018
Its bollocks though, as there's 46 games in a season, plus we had 3 play off games and about 8 cup games Just last season yet the stats are based on 33 games in this spell.

For a change wiki is more accurate.

Player boredom was only one factor - can't remember the others. But the time frame does fit with other high pressure jobs. New person comes in -> does the things they see need doing -> runs out of ideas (gets too fixed on their original analysis of the problem)

The problem is all stats are too subjective, it is entirely possible that at the end of the season, he might start losing the players, or results might turn, or it might be that it happens in 10 years. Because everybody is so different, it's impossible to apply a brush. There is no reason why he should lose the players, but also no reason that he shouldn't.

Not a big fan of a draw is he!

Perhaps thats why he brings so many players in every season to ensure that complacency does not creep in

Total 481 games - 114 draws (and 3 of those last 4 games could easily have been drawn). If stats are correct it's roughly 50% home wins, 25% away wins, 25% draws so par
would be approx. 120 and not hugely behind.

I'd like to see his record of home v away because I suspect he's slightly ahead of the curve away and slightly behind at home. The empty Ricoh could have a bearing as could the amount of alcohol I consume away versus home and the recent run clouding my judgement, but we do seem to have a lot more good away days than I can recall.

I'm part way through reading 'Why England lose and other phenomena explained

They make a really compelling argument for managers having statistically zero impact on how a team finishes in the league - Regression analysis actually almost entirely puts something like 70% of the explanation for finishing position is wage budget.

This isn't just plucked out of thin air, they use like 30 year data sets.

I'm not sure I'm entirely on board with ot, but its certainly an interesting book.
