You can’t define budget have no idea what we have at all and then get shown we can bid for players that are beyond Portsmouth’s financial constraints
Not going well is it?
Well, it's one thing to argue the relative merits of players and managers, but plain daft to be adamant about something that you obviously can't back up with simple figures.

Thanks for this. Interesting, yes, but as the piece says, still "educated guesswork", and nowhere near the complete financial picture. It would be interesting to see the figures for the current season and also to ask a bookie how they rank teams.Interesting article whilst not definitive.Top 5 or 6 clubs blow away anything else in this division. Whatever you define as budget. Interesting how bookies at start of season don't usually get it wrong.
We were 10th favourites at best at start of season. There's a reason for that.
Lambert says he 'hasn't spent any money' - but Ipswich Town's budget will still be big by League One standards
In the same window Portsmouth paid £1.5m for Marquis. Godden clearly wasn’t beyond their financial constraints, they just weren’t willing to pay £750k for him.
ssshhh, Sunderland have got a great manager in Parkinson, leave them be....I would think that wages wise Sunderland would be paying a lot more than Barnsley
I'm sure the bookies have their specialist analysts. Thanks for this. Interesting, yes, but as the piece says, still "educated guesswork", and nowhere near the complete financial picture. It would be interesting to see the figures for the current season and also to ask a bookie how they rank teams.

It's interesting to keep an eye on outright odds during the season. They usually arnt wrong (profit making business)and is a clear correlation between budget/resources and leGue odds.
Lucky to have you Robins. Take a bow.
We have a clear playing identity throughout the club.
Bookies odds are largely influenced by money put on each team

Am I right in giving massive credit to Robins for developing what is a fairly unique system that is paying off big time at the minute. Obviously he deserves huge fucking credit. The question is, does anyone know of any other teams that use 3CB's, 2 wing backs, 2 holding midfield players, 2 10's and a striker? @Esoterica I imagine you'll know if anyone does
Yeah, it's not a 352 in the traditional sense is it. People questioned Robins tactical ability, but he seems to find systems to suit players. Eventually maybe after a bit of trial and error sometimes.Bristol City won league 1 playing 352... But I've never seen a team play 3421 that I can remember anyway

Not meaning this as a pop at him, but half the time it seems that he accidentally stumbles upon the correct formula.
Good tactic and as I get older more and more the wise amongst us are the ones who are willing to rethink and learn new ways and attitudes towards things you thought you already knewNot meaning this as a pop at him, but half the time it seems that he accidentally stumbles upon the correct formula.
If he takes us up he is up there with Sillett & Hill.Doing a wonderful job
43.3% win ratio and playing some of the best football in my lifetime.
The club and man are a perfect match
6th march 2020 will be 3 years in charge
If he takes us up he is up there with Sillett & Hill.
Would be incredible job thoughHe really isn’t - Sillett transformed a relegation team in the top league to title contenders in three years
Yes they often give out championships for coming 7th I suppose. He really isn’t - Sillett transformed a relegation team in the top league to title contenders in three years

We finished 21 points behind the champions?
We didn't contend the title whatsoever but I understand what you are getting at
Some would say Bobby gould built the foundations of that team
We slacked off after Easter, no title winning mentality, none whatever. They were on the beach from March onwards. We were third when we drew with Arsenal at the end of March
Gould signed few of the players in that team and most tellingly Regis has always said Gould virtually destroyed his career and Sillett made him the player he was
Assuming you’re talking 1988/89 we never played with Arsenal in March let alone draw with them, it was 1-0 to us, late February if memory serves (I know cause it was half term). Kilcline scored with a penalty after missing one- get the basics right with this stuff. We played Liverpool at home shortly after and they put us to the sword winning 3-1 and it should have been 7.We were third when we drew with Arsenal at the end of March
