Transfer Rumour Marko Stamenic (7 Viewers)

probably each of his former clubs have been fecked over by the agent and we may have avoided it even though the club must have wasted some money in the process
Apparently he was at Real Betis when Real Madrid wanted him. But there was a lot of animosity between the 2 clubs and the 2 sets of owners, and Betis fans would of gone ballistic if that transfer went ahead.

So in short, we were (allegedly) used as a go between to facilitate the move to Real Madrid, and there was never any chance of him actually playing for us, in fact the closest he got was attending a pre-season friendly at HR.

Rumour had it that we, (or rather someone on our board) received around £1m for facilitating the deal. I think we can all guess who it was, I think it's safe to say the Robbie Keane transfer profit may well of ended up in the same pocket.

All allegedly and no names mentioned of course. And dont even get me started on the corruption that preceeded Mike Mginity's appearance on our board and the leaked links to the "justice taylor report"

I think we dodged a bullet tbh.

Massively over rated by all accounts, he was already 30 when we "signed" him, and he only made 75 appearances after leaving us before retiring.

During his career he played for a number of top clubs. But seemed to move on every 12 months or so, Must of made a fortune from signing on fees alone.
He obviously had a brilliant agent.
Do mean overrated at the time he ‘signed’ for us, or in general?

As if we’re talking generally, I’d have to disagree. He did seem somewhat over the hill at the ‘98 World Cup, though; I recall watching at least 2 games he featured in (at least I think I do, it was 26 years ago) - he had nowhere near that trademark burst of rapid acceleration and mobility.

Edit: just read on Wikipedia that during the last match of the Euro 2000 qualifiers, Croatia Vs FR Yugoslavia, Zoran Mirkovic gave Jarni’s knackers a nasty twist. Interesting bit of trivia. Ouch.

Could you imagine that, after this last few weeks…I’d crap myself with relief, literally.

I keep saying it, but Stamenic is an amazing player, and if we’re still in the running (or if the whole Forest/Olympiakos thing has been a smokescreen) then that’s a real show of intent from MR.
It’s bizarre how there hasn’t been a confirmation from any club yet, though, which oddly works in our favour as the player may have realised life isn’t all kebabs and beaches when you’re pimped around by a PL commodity broking club.

Honestly, if we see ‘Right on the Marko’ later, I’m sending the club my soiled undercrackers with a note: ‘Look what you did to meeee’. 🤣
Put a hey,hey hey in front of the last bit and we've got a song¡

Jarni was top class.

Integral part of that brilliant Croatia side, and had been at Betis for three seasons prior to the whole 'saga'.

Yeah exactly, he never reached the same heights as Marcus Hall.

He was 30, ans struggling to stay fit apparently. Although I doubt he had a medical here.

Yes, just 81 caps in an excellent Croatian team

He might just be waiting to see if anything better than Forest/Greek exile comes up. Still early in the transfer window.

I do hope, for his sake, that this thread makes it to 50 pages though. If the Forest move doesn't work out and he ends up rotting away at Panathinaikos, this will be his legacy. A weird trip of what might of beens, Craig's sex tape and cheese puns!

Would have been the stuff of dreams: Nilsson at RB and Jarni at LB.

Europe could have been ours!!! Especially with Jean Guy Wallemme at CB.

Well, considering there were several players on that ‘leaked whiteboard’ image, it’s clear that they have faith in their ability to acquire good and unknown players and cultivate them into even better players - then sell them off for a relatively modest fee, a few at a time.
Makes sense if that’s the club’s modus operandi.

Either way, it’s obvious he would be moving on after the season he had, I’m sure a fair few clubs have been keeping tabs on Stamenic and indeed his ‘outbound’ teammates.
A season where he didn't play that much towards the end of the season and faded badly?

Ok
