Proper gutted you are, reading your post history you can't stand it 🤣🤣 Good old matty godden
Not at all. I’m not anti Godden I just don’t rate him as highly as some fa

I’d love Godden to prove me wrong and score 25 goals, play most of the season, and be a real thorn in the oppositions side. But I don’t believe he will, and history doesn’t suggest he will either.

oh by the way the fact the club gave spent £11m on 2 strikers suggests Robins doesn’t think he can count on that either.

Time will be the judge.

Yeah that's fair enough and god knows I would be doing the same. I like to think I've always come across as rating godden but wanting the squad to upgrade means more to me. If he can be part of that upgrade that's even better. Right now seems he can.

To be fair , I expect godden will end up 3rd choice , however I'm not about to knock his record for us .. it's fantastic and at this level better than many proven strikers that went onto more .. he just deserves more respect from our fanbase I believe.. anyway here's to a good season

Robins rates godden highly ..

Not many strikers will score 25 at this level , that's some milestone you've given him to prove you wrong ..

Btw , his involvement in his own goal on Saturday is fantastic centre forward play

Say what you want. You just can’t knock his scoring record. If he could stay fit for a season he’d score 15-20 every year.
True, but that is part of my point. He averages around 25 matches per season or about 50% of our fixtures. That’s not a matter of opinion that is fact, over 3 seasons.

Too right. Of course the odds are he won't score 25 goals. Gyokeres had a great season. Ended up putting his value up to over 20m. How many goals did he score?

If Robins doesn't think he can count on Godden why has he kept him so long and has just signed a new 2 year contract?

We played to the strengths of Gyokeres. They were not the strengths of Godden. Now we are playing to the strengths of Godden. And strangely enough he is scoring again.

Whats last season got to do with now. It’s about now, he’s in form so he should get the plaudits. Sick of people harping on about simms might do this, do it then. Then he gets the praise that’s how it works.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's about 60%.

And he missed 10 or so games after having his appendix removed which is clearly nothing to do with football or being injury prone.

Hopefully we can get 30+ games out of him this season.

Godden's recent celebration suggest he might be a bit more senstive then you're making out.

Think the fans it bothered are a bit more sensitive tbh .. and there were a few.. he was directly tagged in abuse on twitter

Godden is almost an old fashioned striker. He relies on his clever runs, intellgience and finishing. He's not pacey, doesn't dribble and isn't a battering ram. I have no doubt he would score goals in the Premier League if he was give the right role, and decent service.
The goal he scored against Derby away during the 21/22 season, when he played a series of one-twos with O'Hare was absolutely superb. As was the stretching finish at Millwall last season. I felt for him at the tail end of last season. Our threadbare squad meant he had to play a kind of second striker role, all to supply Vik.

God help O hare if he picks up an injury soon after returning
People are lumping in an appendicitis with Godden too. His injury record isn't that bad.

As the O'Hare example shows you just can't predict how much time players will be out with injuries with any degree of certainty. Godden has been a fantastic player for us, despite all the moaning from certain quarters when he signed the contract before his most recent one.

Agreed. On finishing and movement Godden is a Premier league standard player. Obviously the other aspects of his play mean that he isn't, but he is a good Championship player.

I think you'll find that it has more to do with the fact that Godden is 32 now and had a couple of injuries last season.

If all the strikers are fit and available, I know which one MR picks first.

Where is he in our record goal-scorers since relegation?

edit- from what I can see, he’s 2nd.

I honestly don’t know how he isn’t more revered by our fans. He scored the goals to help us win a league for the first time in our lifetimes… and has stepped up every time. He’s now better than a 1 in 3 championship striker.

I love Matty but I don’t know if he’ll get us promoted.

Maybe if we build a team that really dominates games.

The two new recruits have a lot to learn from him. He’s a solid starter at the moment. SUPER MATTY GODDEN.
