Not sure about the James signing, with an international break wouldn’t you get him into ryton to have a look at him, bit of a fitness test ?
Sorry, it won’t happen againStop Talking Sense.
Mmm not really the point of this thread … this about what do we do to strengthen BEFORE the window reopens.....In January
Unless there has been at least one free agent incoming next week, we can assume it’s happening in January.Mmm not really the point of this thread … this about what do we do to strengthen BEFORE the window reopens.
We can offload a couple on loan in January if we want to or sell a keeper
Some times the club has to adopt a short term strategy and take players on a years deal or loans
We were short of depth last January. We would never have taken a player like Moore but Ipswich saw a need and did.
The irony on James is that his injury record is now a lot better than previously. He played 37 games last year. His record is better than Sheaf.
There are funds as Palmer has gone.
Might be too late by then. The midfield without Sheaf does not look anywhere near strong enough and it completes negates any benefit of having a huge amount of striking talent as they never get the ball enough.....In January
I was working on someone saying he was happy to come back on a 1+1 basis. In part Dreamer but most free agents want a signing on fee too ( normally a sizeable 6 figure sum ) and for all we know James might want 2 years or even 2+1 ! Where as Palmer just had 1 yr left.
Interestingly our EFL squad of 25 has been submitted with just 24 names so that rather suggests we plan to bring one more in.
Was told he got offered a pay as you play deal only which he said no toWell off loading players in January is possible , but still easier to say than do in reality.
I was a big fan of James and wanted us to sign him last time, despite his injury record. He really made a difference and showed no signs of injury vulnerability. He opted for more money and a previous manager he had worked with, which is fair enough.
However time has moved on. Do we really see him as playing a roll or is this just a knee jerk reaction to results and Sheaf's injury?
If it's the later I would be in the avoid camp and look long term.
However if James is prepared to take a short term contract and lower his wage expectations a deal may be there? But I can't see it happening?
Still a no from me.
Are we really that desperate? The answer is no.
Can we make do with the players we have? The answer is a resounding yes.
Keep back the wages and the signing on fee for a player that we can gain value on.
Says it all that we’ve had just two 33 year olds (or older) that we got on a free that have been ‘reasonably’ successful in our entire history.

Agree.A yes from me. We can't rely on Sheaf.
Agree.
won’t happen now don’t think however.
Ridiculous we’ve ended up in this position - ridiculousKai Andrews it is then.
Didn't we get Strachan on a free past that age ? McFadzean came to us at nearly 33 ,but I wouldn't take James or Fleck.Still a no from me.

He’s probably wanting a big wage and at minimum a 12 month deal. Was told he got offered a pay as you play deal only which he said no to
Moore hasn’t played a game for 14 months, he did his ACL twice I think. Was highly rated at the club but it’s hard to come back the same from oneHe’s probably wanting a big wage and at minimum a 12 month deal.
If that weakens our move for a CM in Jan then no. Kai Andrews and Isaac Moore on stand by.

Cause it isn't the 80s any more and running the players into the ground in training doesn't work anymoreWhy oh why are the players on another break?! Should have been 2 weeks of hard grind on the training ground after the start we’ve had
Really don't believe our sticky start to the season is down to a lack of effortif we had played and been unlucky then ok...but play and look clueless, get the fuckers training on tactics / motivation and fucking effort
Can I hire him please?the only fucker earning their money is this new sleep coach, think he is doing to well....
Rabiot is a fully fledged French international and still hasn’t got a club so it’s not an indictment of someone’s ability if they are still a free agentQ. If Matty is that good then why has he not got a contract already somewhere ?
Asking for a friend!

He’s in the squad photo interestingly so possibly back training nowMoore hasn’t played a game for 14 months, he did his ACL twice I think. Was highly rated at the club but it’s hard to come back the same from one
Judging by the players Instagram those not on international duty have been given the week off (Simms has been in Greece by the looks of it!)
Maybe it could be announced this week now the players will be training again who knows
I am just hoping that if this doesn’t happen then it’s because Sheaf is fit and ready to play on Saturday
They’d have the same time off if we’d won all the gamesBlimey, a Week Off for Failure, Makes you Wonder How Long Off if They Win Something.
