I'm not sure what you're saying here?

My point is that he is saying we have reached a limit, which would make sense had we signed those 2 players on day. But we didn't...
maybe we are going back in for said players in January?

Robins does seem to be saying some slightly contradictory stuff the last few weeks. Not sure if he is just trying to manage expectations.

Eg. I think a lot of people knew Palmer was on the way out. Robins seemed to imply this was sprung on the club. Suspect he's just trying to manage PR on this because the club never got a replacement in.
The way I read the Palmer situation was that it was always potentially on the cards, but the actual specific deal only materialised last minute. So there was some element of surprise. Robins also obviously didn't feel there was any point in blocking the move even if we'd wanted to because KP's head was elsewhere.

It was poor business from the club.

Think it was poor timing rather than poor business.

Palmer was a pretty sizeable expense comparative to his output on the field. I'd imagine he was easily one of the higher earners at the club.

So when you take that into account, as well as his age, and the fact he only had one year left remaining on his deal, getting a respectable fee from Hull was good going.

It's just disappointing that no one came in the other way.

It's given the dullards something to moan about for a few months . You'd think by some of the nonsense written that the club didn't try to sign anyone

I don’t think letting Palmer go was a poor move at all. We got a fee for a squad player on an expiring contract and on expensive wages. It’s inconvenient for 4-5 months, but we should have greater flexibility in January with the freed up funds.

Looking at his statistical output for his whole career, we’re not massively losing out and his good start to this season shouldn’t cloud that judgement.

I mean you can't really say anything more than: 'that's the transfer window'.

They rarely pan out the way you want them to.

Disappointing of course that no one came in, especially given it sounded like we were close but when multiple parties/stakeholders are involved in a deal it really doesn't take all that much for it to go south.

Not sure what your point is.

We're desperately short in midfield now, not getting anyone in was an error.

It's not really an error, it's just football. The club tried repeatedly to bring in a midfielder and it didn't materialise - unfortunately as mentioned transfer windows very rarely ever pan out the way you want them to.

Yes, we're light in midfield but Sheaf is back soon so hopefully he can stay fit until January where we can hopefully look to the loan market.

And when he inevitably gets crocked again…

Same story every window though. This Jan we needed a winger, tried to get EMC in and failed. The planning needs to be better.

In three windows we've pretty much revamped our entire squad. The level of work that would've taken to get to where we are now really shouldn't be understated.

Certain things still need to click and the performances haven't been good enough but we're getting close to becoming a very well rounded team.

There's been a fixation since transfer deadline day about our midfield. Yes we're certainly a player light but to suggest everything that has happened this season so far as regards results and performances is because we didn't sign anyone is a bit of a stretch.
Strikers not firing yet or showing enough movement, defensive mistakes and deflections have contributed just as much , if not more .
Performances have been up and down but the world hasn't gone into meltdown because we didn't sign another midfielder

In seriousness, I do agree with you here. Midfield is however the most important part of the pitch and ultimately, we’re still praying for Ben Sheaf to stay fit. That being the case is because we insisted on the perfect target at the expense of good ones.

If we have or will miss out on players like Matty James. because of financial restraints' surely we could have offered him a short term deal until January because if we had and our performance/results showed an upturn surely the extra revenue from more fans wanting to come and watch would more than pay a new player coming in, but I guess it depends on how much a player would want per week and maybe James wanted a tad too much !

When it comes to transfer dealings all of us are ultimately guessing
