Good against a physical side like Cardiff, no so much against a pacey striker e.g. Adam Armstrong. I think he’ll mix and match between him and Ostigard depending on the opposition. Good to have defenders for different situations though.

Fadz is the sort of player who will run through a fire to stop you conceding whilst still controlling the back 4... Hyam imo, looks up to fadz

Hyam is the best defender at the club (by a mile!). I know I am critical of McFadzean, but today was the sort of game that he thrives on, with big strikers against long ball tactics. He was very good, particularly in the second half. He has a place in there somewhere but must be used sparingly in this division against in behind, pacy teams when is is massively exposed. Happy for him to start when we are gonna be up against teams like Cardiff

I think and it's probably true... Fadz took alot of unnecessary flack, he was by far the best of the 3 last season... And imo is the reason hyam has improved as a defender

Also he is the defender with the most clearances in the side isn't that correct? Or headed clearances... Wins almost everything...

McFadzean did well tonight but Hyam was immaculate. Hyam has been consistently good all season, even when others around him have struggled on occasions.

Well done to Fadz though for coming back well in the last two games.

Hyams passing from the back, general comfort on the ball has improved no end year on year.Also love his little forrays it space beyond the halfway line (something Mcfadz doesn't do).

Hyam is getting better and better.

Can see alot of this young team..having big futures in the championship level.

Yes and no. Entirely depends on who we're playing and how we're playing. If its against Cardiff, for example, big strikers with long balls, yes, hes the best we have amd will head the ball away all day. If its against a Blackburn or such with 3 or 4 pacey players running at the defence, then no, he's a penalty/red card waiting to happen. Also, when we are playing it around at the back, both Hyam and Rose look more comfortable/confident than he does, they can both ping 40 yard diagonals to the wing backs with their eyes closed whereas Fadz is hi and miss. One game he'll pick 40yard pass after pass, next week he couldn't hit a barn door.

Is his experience and leadership essential in the squad? Yes, absolutely.
Is he the best CH in the squad? No, not all round defender no.

Agreed, Mcfadzean is a proper old school Sunday league CB.
Dealing with massive, strong strikers and heading anything around him is his bread and butter.
Against pacy agile strikers and he'll make errors

The fact he's learnt and adapted so quickly despite being propelled from League 2 to the Championship in just 3 years is also hugely impressive. Kelly also deserves a notable mention for this.

Fadz was immense yesterday because Cardiff were a team playing to his strengths. They were a big team looking to challenge aerially. A team with movement and pace and he'll be run ragged.

We haven't really got any CB's that are overly equipped with dealing with pace but if we're playing against it I'd prefer Hyam/Osti/Rose in terms of attributes (although I admit we'd miss Fadz's experience, leadership and organising).

Against a bigger more direct forward he's unquestionably in ahead of Rose.

He's great when teams are playing direct football and he has to head all game. As soon as he's isolated one on one with a striker running at him or past him he's in trouble. He was immense last night.

McFadz is the most dominant defender we have, but he has a costly mistake in him. Hyam, for me, is the most reliable defender we have. Last night he made a crucial header to deny an opportunity from a cross. Similarly, his defending against Bournemouth was heroic.

Those two defenders are the best, most balanced pairing we have at our disposal. Without a doubt.

Great moment last night when a Cardiff player went to kick a set piece delivery and McFadz just used his head to get it away.

Not sure medical staff would be able to tell if McFadz ended up getting a knock to the face.

I think Ostigard will eventually become that exact player. You could hardly take Fadz out the side now during this rough patch when we desperately need his experience, but I think he'll be the one to go by the end of the season (Hyam has been superb). He was excellent yesterday though.
