I love stats but some people sometimes takes them too fair. Yes stats are an indication but it doesn't mean he can't bang 15+ in for us this season. He may not, but the stats doesn't guarantee that. Wilson didn't fuck all before last season then notches 20, would stats have told you that?

Most people on here were saying we were relegation certainties last season and citing Wilson as a factor in that.

His goal scoring record was dreadful you see - 2 goals in 31 senior appearances.

Exhibit B I reckon.

Exhibit C

Lets look at SP choice in strikers who he has personally bought into the club...

D. Slager - Flop
N. Delfouneso - Flop
R. Donnelly - Lasted 48hrs
C. Akpom - Flopped (Although interetsing he came on for Arsenal Sunday)
N. Eccleston - Flop
M. Manset - Flop
J. Loza - Didnt see play
C. Dagnall - Played one good game MK then flopped

So thats 8 strikers who he has bought in and do you disagree all turned out awful signings?

Although you are correct, some of them were 'circumstances'. SP was desperate for bodies and hasn't he said that he was mis-informed regarding some of those players and the situation they were in? Over the Summer he has had time so I have more faith in his choices.

fair enough that does suggest I'm wrong, I don't think the poll tells the full story at all though, the two options are bottom half and relegation, I think if you believe we are going to struggle and will be battling relegation but are more likely to stay up than go down from those 2 options you chose relegation yet it doesn't describe your feelings. That is what I think the general opinion was before the season last year, we are going to struggle but we are more likely to stay up than go down.

So your telling me SP hasn't been desperate this time round? I'd say he's more desperate then ever!!!! Tudgay is a class act, no question but will he be up for it? Jury out and as for the loanne. Never a fan of loans due to the fact they haven't got a affiliation with the club. Hopefully proved wrong :) but we have been more desperate this summer for strikers then ever before under SP

I already acknowledged the poll suggests I'm wrong but I stand by the fact that relegation battle but more likely to stay up was the general opinion before the season started, that poll was in June when we were expecting a 15 point deduction and when we were in a transfer embargo and unable to sign players, it doesn't represent the general opinion before the season started. I know I voted relegation in that poll and relegation wasn't my view. I thought we were say 70-30 to stay up but would be in a relegation battle.

Week long ban bet that he scores less than 10, you on?

Deal.

Decided to stop arguing around the bush and just make a series of bets on stuff like this. Plus I could do with a break :D

Might as well do a charity thing for it too. I'll pay £2 for every goal under 10 he scores, you £2 or every goal over 10. (Up to 20 to keep it fair)
Nicks choice of charity.

No, I am not telling you he hasn't been desperate this time around but it is the summer. I said he has more time. When he brought Akpom in, we were playing game after game and losing and slipping down the table. He needed someone in. Read my post properly before you spout.

I think your the one that needs to read sonny.... You said SP was desperate which in English means past tense. I personally think this is the most desperate he has been (for strikers) since coming here. Do you disagree?

Waiting for apology?

I don't see why he should be desperate theres still loads of good freebies out there unless they're asking for ridiculous wages

Nicks choice of charity.

Just had a thought: NICK: Could there be a sticky/sub-forum where people can make bets like this? Maybe reduce a bit of the arguing (or at least harness it for a good cause) and raise some cash for a charity to boot?

We could have a poll on which charity to support, or sent it to the same one picked for the scarves.

spoke to someone at work today who follows Bournemouth, and he said he should do well with us at this level if he gets the right service.

so basically if we play attacking football, and give him plenty of chances, he should score a fair few.

wouldn't mind a striker who only needs 1 or 2 chances to score, not 10+

that's what frustrated me most about Clarke and sometimes Wilson, but mainly Clarke, more clinical, he would have got 30+ last season for us.

but anyway, c'mon Josh McQuoid :D

Why not pick the number of goals in a season and the winner or winners take the total and give to the charity of their choice? £10 each?

You mean total, for the team?

I'd be up for something like that.

To be honest no one in League 1 has this type of ratio. Clarke and Wilson are as good as it gets in this league.

Yes, bit of fun and we can all say the charity it goes to - bank transfer to nick and the winning charity gets a nice sum.

I have just read this thread and now I know that he will score lots of goals because Mcgoaldrought scored lots. There is no doubt about it as a few on here say so.

Has anybody said he will score loads? I can only see people saying he isn't very good and people saying don't write him off.

I have just read the whole thread again.

All that has been mentioned is that he isn't a prolific scorer but has played on the wing. One has said he don't think he will score more than ten. If the stats showing he has only scored 1 in 10 are correct then this would suggest it to be true. But nobody has called him crap.

It was also pointed out about SP's track record on signing strikers. This is correct. We won't know how our strikers will do until we start playing. But to suggest he will do well because of McGoaldrought did is an opinion. Isn't anyone allowed an opinion which is different to this?

If he is good enough he should do well. That is the same as everyone in our squad. Division 3 is a massive step down from the Championship. Just like the Prem is a massive step from the Championship. Players taking the step down should do well. But that is if they were doing well at that level and not going down to the level that they belong.
