Does anyone know what happened to Quirke once he left? He seemed to have a fair bit of skill and could ply his trade in league 1. Any news anyone?

The boy had something to offer,he has a touch of madness and arrogance which you need to be a keeper ,just listen to Astute lol, only joking mate, but there must have been a side to him they did'nt like his stats in the first team stack up thuogh.

That save he did against norwich was world class, very very poor decision to let him go, great 2nd choice keeper with low wages!

Nuneaton were short of a 'keeper with their first choice off playing for British Universities for a while. I thought Quirke would be their ideal signing, but they went for another ex-City youth 'keeper, Neil Collett, on loan from Mansfield.

His days were numbered as soon as he did that Cryff turn in his own area in one of his earlier appearances (I forget who the opposition was).

More seriously thougj, He was known for having a social life similar to Thorntons I heard (unsure if it was fact or not) and may have made the clubs mind up about ending his stay at the club, irrespective of how he performed on the pitch).

As a 19 year Cov kid he was ten times better than what we have now!!!
You are right he did have the touch of madness about him but he also had the ability to become an excellent keeper given time.
He was with the academy for 10 years so they knew what type of character he was!

I liked him too but honestly, if he was all that, why is he filed under "where are they now?" Surely someone in the lower leagues-even nonleague-would have snapped him up?

Yes i agree that world class save he made against Norwich last game of the season was why he should have been kept.
Stands out in the memory that one,raw talent, natural ability!!

McIndoe can afford to buy his own team! Why didn't SISU try to get him to invest? Buy him some shares in the casino and he'd be there in a shot...

He is presently unemployed. Thorn let him go. This was bizarre. If Thorn new that he could sign only 3 players why release him and sign 2 goalkeepers. Also SISU and Thorn offered Danny Ireland a 1 year contract extension and he is injured - ridiculous.

Yeah, well, he didn't know that he could only sign 3 players

I don't know if he did or not but why did he give Ireland a year extensions and sign 2 more keepers?

Guys, its none other then Oggy who runs the rule over our keepers. I heard it was a height issue that made up Oggys mind on Quirke.

Danny Ireland is injured alot but he is highly thought of. They had the eye on Murphy and Dunn and with Ireland there was no room for Quirke as they could not afford 4 keepers on the books.

Remember the last time we turned down a player for being too small?? OK, i dont but ive read stuff about it in the past, and he didnt turn out too badly did he! Albeit an outfield player, but we still used this as a reason for signing him

I assume this, every time I end up playing in goal I have to fight against all my natural reactions which tell me to get the hell out of the way of a ball flying my way. When people actually choose to go in goal I assume they've got a masochistic streak (or just aren't jessies like me)

You joke about the cruff turn but that was one of the reasons he was let go. The management at the club were not impressed with some of his risk taking in games. He also in one game last season wouldn't warm up correctly i've been told and just had aick about.

Bit harse if this was true but was fed back to me from a good source. Though some patience for a yound kid wouldn't of gone a miss. £200 a week salary?
