He had a much, much, much, much, much bigger budget-and totally blew it. For every Wise there is a Kyle and a McKenzie.

Fair play to him though, he deserves his promotion this year. Seems to have turned it around after his diabolical 2nd spell at Brighton. And the poor soul looked close to sobbing his eyes out on Late Kick Off last night.

I see Birchall "made" the winning (own) goal. Bit of a Lloyd McGrath situation there.

Again, NLWHC-I'm talking solely about the 05/06 campaign where few can dispute the budget was restricted entirely to freebies and the expectation was for us to struggle. 2006/7 the wheels fell off the cart once expectations soared and McSheffrey was sold without adequate replacement.

I assumed we were talking purely about Adams' 05/06 season, purely to make the comparison with Black more valid. The Adams budget that year was hardly colossal and relative to the rest of the division was among the smallest; the same couldn't be said in 03/04.

Even by those standards Adams was less successful than Black, with a 1.36 points per game average during 2005/2006 v Black's 1.54.

Finances ...

Unlike Black, Adams had a generous wage budget and was able to build his own squad. Joining his February signings (Hall and Page) and existing established players for the 2005/2006 season were Ince, Scowcroft, Heath, Impey, Watson, Sofiane, Hutchison, Wise, Duffy, Bywater, Flood, Nalis and Fulop. Collectively they represented a significant upgrade on the players who left.

Black had a few bargain basement signings: Gudjonsson, Deloumeaux, Grainger, Lowe. Not close to being comparable.

Who needs those red herrings about 8th place, it's been non-stop progress since. Give yourselves a pat on the back.

All the other managers have been sh*tter, doesn't mean Adams should be held up in high regards because the blunt is he didn't do a good job.

Just because we keep picking shitty managers doesn't mean we should clutch at straws and elevate Adams to 'legend' status as you always seem to do.

Before anyone jumps on me, I'm not in the "Eric Black is a messiah" camp either.
