He had a much, much, much, much, much bigger budget-and totally blew it. For every Wise there is a Kyle and a McKenzie.
Fair play to him though, he deserves his promotion this year. Seems to have turned it around after his diabolical 2nd spell at Brighton. And the poor soul looked close to sobbing his eyes out on Late Kick Off last night.
I see Birchall "made" the winning (own) goal. Bit of a Lloyd McGrath situation there.

I assumed we were talking purely about Adams' 05/06 season, purely to make the comparison with Black more valid. The Adams budget that year was hardly colossal and relative to the rest of the division was among the smallest; the same couldn't be said in 03/04.
Who needs those red herrings about 8th place, it's been non-stop progress since. Give yourselves a pat on the back.
