Surely Ashley is more likely to make money out of the arena by having a successful football club operating out of it? The more successful the club, the more attention the arena gets. That is why I find it hard to believe that at some point he will not want some control over it to help achieve that end. I guess things will become a bit clearer in the next week or so.

Except there is no evidence that he will make the team more successful. And while Ashley would make more money out of owning the club, for the time being he doesn’t own it and I’m worried the continued split between the two is going to be damaging - why would either invest without the other?

I imagine that the potential CCFC takeover blind sided Ashley last night and wasn’t the scrip Ashley had written for him. The ground hardly makes enough money for Ashley to excited about so it must be able CCFC. That piece of land by the M6 remains as scruffy and depressing as it was when the arena opened 17 years ago.
It's in the shadow of a major sporting and leisure complex, yet nobody wants to go near it.
A new hotel would provide very modest returns. Housing perhaps? There isn't much land to develop anyway. Can't see much happening for next 10 years tbh.

When he took over the club we’re on a downward spiral, obviously any multitude of things can cause this and when it sets in it can take years to put the brakes on and steady things up, he increased spending including on wages but the rot and supporters apathy had well and truly set in.Ashley's ownership of Newcastle was not dissimilar to SISU's ownership of us, they just started at a higher point. 9 out of the 10 seasons prior to Ashley's involvement they finished high enough to be playing in Europe. Under Ashley they were relegated twice and only qualified for Europe once.
Some people seem to think he'll come in and go all out to make us a top Prem club but the evidence doesn't really back that up.

I believe, he is not shy of the camera so I cannot see him taking us on. It has been reported he wants his main offices to be near Coventry and part of what he has bought includes areas where he can develope. He is picking up a stadium for £17million which is a complete bargain, and is loose change for him. I really cannot see him putting in a bid.

On the one hand they were relatively successful before he bought them but didn't he find out there was >100m worth of debt that he didn't know about.
If thats the case he sort of did well, he eradicated the debt and got the club on an even footing for their big oil sale.
The thing is, once in the prem, with 50k per week they should be able to regularly push for top 8 and with a fair wind challenge for Europe. But they didn't.
From memory they actually used to spend decent money on players, Yohan Cabaye (spelling(?)) went there for over 20m way back when. 25m is good money now. My thinking is that there was no real strategy (pardew 7 year contract was about this time).
The squad that is operating at the top end has had money spent on it but the guts of it are what was left when they got bought ou who were seemingly hampered by having Bruce at the helm (again, no football nouse or strategy).
If he did take over now he's clearly got cash...
And I think behi the scene we must have good "football people" because look at what we've bought in for peanuts. You've got to think a bit of extra capitol could only help.

He was ahead of the game with the stadium. i guess he didn’t like losing with the Derby bid? I hope both he and King can thrash a deal out. This king bloke maybe they need to go to the Casino for a session?It’s not really a leisure complex though is it? It could be, equally a better hotel could do it. Even something simple like a warehouse it’s well placed for. I don’t think the Arena has had an owner with the cash or chops to develop it. The council can’t do it, they rely on private investment, Wasps were a busted flush. Why not Ashley? He’s looking for a base of operations, who knows what he has planned?
But far more people make money from property than football at the end of the day. Football is a gamble you do for fun, not a serious business investment.

Gawd, politics of whether the press is right or left wing. I’d have said the press does as much as possible to question the government in power and comes over very anti C/UP. not saying they don’t deserve it. Man Utd won 16 trophies between 2003 and 2013 yet only managed 3 more up to today ‘is that solely down to the owner or we’re other factors at play ?
If most supporters of other clubs wish Mike Ashley on their rivals (I’m really not sure most do ) then I would guess they’re easily manipulated into thinking that waya bit similar to how the press manages to keep the Tory’s in power.
In all honesty I’m completely stumped as to how any supporter of CCFC would rather carry on with SISU in any guise in charge of our club, than a self made actual cash billionaire bloke who loves to gamble and wouldn’t be averse to having his name in lights.
In all honesty Newcastle Utd might have been a bit to big for him (certainly in the fans eyes) and now proven by their subsequent takeover.
