Sakamoto first half played well
Backs to walls, Lati headed, blocked and cleared everything!

First half Sakamoto and Torp were brilliant and Lati did well in the closing 10 minutes. Interesting when you see players average position Lati is the deepest player by a distance. Over the 90 mins:

Collins 6
Milan 6
Thomas 6
Lati 7 - MOTM
Bidwell 6
Sheaf 6
Torp 7
Sakamoto 7
Rudoni 7 - bonus point for the assist
EMC 7 - Bonus point for the goal
Simms 6

Subs
Eccles 6
BTA 6
Bassette 6
JDS 6
Tavares N/a

Ref - 10 disallowing their goal and waving away 2 very strong penalty shouts.

Two weeks in a row the commentators have called Sheaf top class, running the game etc but the opinion on here differs greatly.

Did he give the ball away sloppily 3 or 4 times? Yes.
Was he the best midfielder on the pitch? Also yes.
Hamer used to give the ball away a lot attempting progressive passes and rarely got the same amount of criticism Sheaf gets

Been a big Simms fan and said Norman was too raw, but has to play ahead of him now. Collins didn't convince me either but hopefully his clean sheet does him good. Everyone else 7.

EMC utter dog shit but he can score lol Shaefs passing ...dreadful but we won so 3 points in the bag and a clean sheet 2 boot 😀

Torp excellent, Saka also very good and had their full back on toast

Lati, Bidwell and MVE looked solid, Bobby T was ok but looks prone to mistakes still and gave away a couple of horrendous passes first half, but also a threat in the box too so probably has to start

Sheaf has been covered - glad Lampard knows a good midfielder! Rudoni grew into the game, as did EMC, both had good 2nd halves, Simms did a job but nothing noticeable either way

Collins still worries me, wasn’t really tested today but he looked ok positionally when he had to do something other than that corner

Norm and BTA lively when they came on, Eccles I think tried too hard and guilty of holding onto it too long a couple of times and a couple of poor passes, but still ok

One real positive is Lampard seems to have already bonded with the players, and I think that comes across on the pitch - to me it seems they are more of a ‘team’ already

Long may it continue!

Least we know whose second account this is now

Tbf I love Sheaf and think he’s brilliant usually but he was absolutely shite today. Looked 3 yards off the pace, always second best to the ball and gave it away constantly. Looks like this injury hasn’t quite settled.

Interesting that once Eccles came on the pitch he had to bail Sheaf out twice with two crucial interceptions in the middle of the park.

I didn't think Sheaf was great, a 6 at best, but nowhere near as bad as some are making out, so just gone back and had a look at his stats. He was poor first half but ran the game in the second half.

92 touches (most in our team)

69 passes (most in our team)

88.4% pass completion (2nd in team, only Lati was higher 90.6%, BTA was a 100% but that was literally just 2 passes)

2 key passes (joint second, only Rudoni with 3 on more)

5 fouls won (most in the team)

4 tackles made (most in the team)

He was dispossessed 5 times which was the worst in the team, and had 2 unsuccessful touches as did 4 other players.

Hardly horrendous numbers.

Solid 7’s all round. I thought Bidwell was good as was Rudoni. Much better defensively. Emc 2 in 2. Not much else from him but I’ll take that impact

Only Latibeaudiere had a better pass completion so how bad do you think the rest of the squads passing is?!
We are constantly giving the ball back to the opposition Sheaf wasn't the only one Rudoni Lati Norman Mason Clark its something that seriously needs addressing

Some shocking passing 1st half. Sheaf and Thomas big culprits. Much better 2nd half.
Sheaf so much better when he just has to concentrate on protecting the back 4. Far too much pressure been pinned on him to carry the team after a pre-season injured.

I'm still not convinced Pete that Sheaf is playing injury free. The addition of a top class box to box midfielder in the window would be brilliant for Sheaf, Eccles and the team. We're still over reliant on players who can't be rotated and basically have to play all the time - MVE and Sheaf as the best examples.

Both were expected to carry the team physically and mentally. Their roles needed simplifying for them to flourish. Sheaf is an elite DMC and Milan is an elite right back. We expected too much from both of them after the departure of the spine of our team.

Harsh scores for Simms as per usual. He occupied their defence in a flat first half. Yes Bassette ran around more but he is so raw. nearly cost us a goal at the end. Looks a lot better as fresh legs from the bench for me. Simms desperately needs a run of games to get going, I really hope he gets that.

Got to disagree here. Occupying a defence (I didn't see that personally) isn't enough to warrant a run of games.

Causing uncomfortable moments for defenders and GKs, offering good peel off runs and getting into scoring positions...... is.

Which also relies on balls being played quickly into the box which .... isn't
