Reserves draw with MK Dons

Coventry City Reserves drew 2-2 with MK Dons this afternoon in a behind closed doors game at Ryton.

Billy Daniels equalised for City in the first half and in the second, Shaun Jeffers fired Lee Carsley's side ahead before the visitors equalised.

A YOUTHFUL Sky Blues side was denied victory by a late equaliser at MK Dons in a behind closed doors friendly on Tuesday.

Former Coventry midfielder Lee Carsley took charge of a side that contained six academy players alongside experienced first teamers such as James McPake, Martin Cranie and David Bell, who were looking to maintain match sharpness.

The hosts took the lead ten minutes before half-time but Carsley's words at the break had the desired effect as City started a lot more aggressively and drew level on 55 minutes.

Billy Daniels showed a great first touch to control the ball inside the area before turning to smash into the bottom corner.

The momentum was now with the visitors and Shaun Jeffers put them in front 15 minutes from time after he was set up by good work from first year apprentice Will Rankin - who came on as a second half substitute.

Substitutions were a feature of the game, with the usual competitive restrictions lifted, and the Sky Blues made four changes while Dons made eight.

And those changes were decisive as the fresher hosts managed to grab an equaliser just six minutes before the final whistle.

Team

Coventry City: Dunn, Willis (Henderson), Ruffels (Phillips), McPake, Cranie, Bell, Roberts (Daniels), Bigirimana, Deegan, Richards (Rankin), Jeffers.

jeffers needs to be on the bench soon, hes a quick and fairly powerful striker, and on what i have seen a million times better than RoD!!!

Odd, didn't the CT report that Bell was injured and out of Saturdays game?

I'm all for giving Jeffers a chance. As far as staking a claim goes, surely he'll never get a better chance? Well, and next season when our only other striker is ROD, naturally

Not sure I agree with the 'youthful' quote....McPake, Crainie, Bell and Deegan....

But 10 of our 15 were kids, not counting Dunn. That is pretty youthful, TBF.

City reserves take on MK Dons

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn will use today's reserve friendly game at Milton Keynes Dons to try out his alternative tactics and to test the fitness of returning players.
Thorn will play Gael Bigirimana, who has missed three games because of suspension and he will also give Martin Cranie a full 90 minutes.
Speaking to the club web site Thorn said, "I'm going to try and give Martin Cranie a good 90 minutes and it's also another game for Gael
(Bigirimana) after serving his suspension.

Deja vu? Time travel? Insanity? :thinking about:
