SENT ON BEHALF OF SANDRA GARLICK, CHAIR OF THE CCFC STADIUM FORUM

Dear

I am sure you will have already read that I recently became the chair of the CCFC Stadium Forum.

The team working up plans for a new stadium for the club revealed the early impressions of what a new ground will look like just before Christmas and the purpose of the forum is to ensure the club’s tradition and history is imprinted on the new venue.

I have already met and chatted with lots of supporters since taking up my role, but I now want to meet with Sky Blues fans formally to make sure that all views are taken into account.

I know that everyone wants the club back in the Coventry area as soon as possible, and our only role is to ensure that when that happens, it will be coming to a home which reflects both the tradition and the ambition of the club.

I want to take supporters’ views and then translate them into a series of practical and workable recommendations for the owners of the club and their architects.

I held a meeting with Season Ticket holders earlier this month and I am holding an open meeting on Monday, January 20, for all supporters to attend.

This is not a committee meeting but a chance for fans to input their thoughts on the new ground and also, if they so desire, to put themselves forward to become part of the committee going forward.

Eventually, that committee – which will be formed in February – will be made up of a range of fans with a range of views – including Season Ticket holders, non Season Ticket holders and corporates.

Anyone wishing to attend needs to register by emailing [email protected] Confirmation of booked places will be sent via email. Supporters are asked to arrive at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

I do look forward to seeing you and working with you over the coming weeks and months to make sure the supporters have as big a say as possible in the club’s home.

'I know that everyone wants the club back in the Coventry area as soon as possible...'Erm, no - how do you know what everyone wants?

Condescending BS.

I want Coventry City Football club back in the City of Coventry, not the 'Coventry area'.

I got that email, too. I replied saying that I believe the majority of fans don't want a stadium in the Coventry area, but a stadium in Coventry - where there is already a suitable one.

Torch, what do you make of all this new stadium stuff? Personally, I think sisu are playing a blinder on this. They've come up with an idea that is impossible to disprove ie you can't 'prove' a stadium won't be built cos you can't prove a negative. The whole excitement about the Exhall site has been created without sisu saying anything in public at all - that really is pr genius. And they've now sustained the issue for 8 months without identifying a site, purchasing land, contacting councils beyond one speculative enquiry and have certainly not submitted a planning application. To achieve so much attention for an idea without actually doing anything concrete is again pr genius. I can't help but feel it's like me telling my wife I'm going to build us a new home, showing her some pics of what it might look like but after several months she says because I haven’t bought any land or submitted a planning application she doesn’t believe I’m going to build our new home. Can't help but feel an evening with Sandra G discussing hypotheticals isn't going to be much fun

Surely then you only attend if you 100% believe that a new stadium will be built in Coventry?????
If not, whats the point?

I agree that i am not convinced that there is a stadium in the offing either however they are clearly financing this charade by employing Sandra to lead this up so i suppose an honest question is why would they go through all of this trouble for no reason. The fans are clear they wont step into 6fields so it is not about increasing attendance figures but is it to simply keep the fans on a leash for the next 3 years?

Really? Surely, even if you don't believe it will be built - which is the majority - then don't you want to go and ask questions and put her under pressure for answers? That's the point, I would have thought.

And thats your choice, there are some saying it wasnt fair that only ST holders (superduper fans) were allowed to input so now they have the chance to say their piece.

I wouldn't recommend it based on the last one.

Might get the odd nugget about the stadium design, but hoping for anything about location or it's actual existence is barking up the wrong tree IMO.

On another note I applied but haven't got this email. Maybe I was rumbled ;)

mines gone to them...
.............................

Hi Shawny.

I would just like to express my comments on the recent email regarding the stadium forum evening.

I would like to express my opinion on the following...

1) I do not want CCFC to move back to "the Coventry Area", I want Coventry to move back to Coventry.

2) There is no need for a new ground, we have a home, it is the Ricoh. I am yet to be convinced that a short term deal (whilst the new stadium will be built) wouldn't be more profitable than our current arrangement at Sixfields. On Sky Blues Talk, a poster "RFC" believes that this isn't the case, but he hasn't provided any numbers to prove it, so if you have any, I would like to see them.

Please can you add these comments to any for "consideration" when looking at the "fans" reccomendations.

PUSB, Whilst we sing together, we will never move !

I had the same email and responded in the same way as you.

Actually, my formal response was;

Dear Sandra
I have yet to meet a single supporter who wants a new stadium 'in the Coventry area'.
We are Coventry City and all of its supporters want us to be playing in Coventry, at the Ricoh.
Our owners, and ONLY our owners are responsible for this mess.
I have no interest whatsoever in attending your pointless forum.

If the PR works then yes clever................ but what if CCC and ACL basically say get on with it we are doing something else. If that happens SISU have put themselves in a hole where they will need to build, and a year after first saying they would they have not yet got close to a site. I would guess they would have preferred to have kept a lid on the site locations for a while yet but the FOI and CT articles re Exhall have stopped that and SISU will have decisions to make

They have also guaranteed by what has gone on (or not been done) staying Sixfields for another 3 years or more ...... not good for the vast majority of supporters, but the fans don't seem to be important to any of the parties

Of course a stadium holding 12k to a max of 20k is every Coventry supporters ambition...F**king NOT!!!.........No new stadium will be "Coming Home" if it's OUTSIDE Coventry Boundaries.

This will be a totally independent, nothing to do with the club, committee?

That's what I thought when I got the email today, and I would question her "independence" to be honest.

It may be someone else who's organising it, but its come from an official CCFC account and signed by Garlick.

And if Garlick insists this has nothing to do with the club, then why are the club letting her have access to my email details via their database?

A solicitor and a PR expert? Sounds about right, all propaganda and legally dodgy.

I didn't get the whole 'yeah, but it's only ST holders who can go...not fair'. Surely that's the same with the majority of things...ST Holders get first dibs in everything?!

You'd kind of expect that wouldn't you to get through to Cov fans?

Better than just sending out emails to random addresses hoping that somebody might be a Coventry fan and interested.

Ther'd be blokes in Nigeria receiving an email asking if they would be interested in a football stadium being built near Coventry who would think it was some sort of scam.

Hang on...

Firstly she is not being paid by anybody!

Sandra Garlick owns her own business (Solicitors) and she specialises in 'Social Media Law'! She is and always has been a life long fan and former season ticket holder but did not renew because of the move to Northampton, however she's been to Sixfields on at least five occasions and enjoyed the experience.

One of the points that came out of last weeks meeting is that she's eager to get the club back into Coventry (or the area) as soon as possible and went to some lengths to point out that neither herself or any other Coventry City supporter had any input whatsoever when we left Highfield Road for the Ricoh.

This is a great opportunity for everyone to make a contribution that will make the new ground feel much more like home, hopefully the same feel that Highfield Road had but it's up to you.

FL have strict timescale rules regarding clubs with temporary homes moving back to their original location and if no deal for the Ricoh is forthcoming in the next 12 or 13 weeks they have to submit these by around May or June (so I'm lead to believe). PUSB !

Firstly the FL have said they have no plans to ask for progress on the stadium until the end of the season.

Secondly, you've kind of hit the nail on the head about consultation. I am a bit of an outlier when it comes to what I want. I like a roomy seat, plenty of conveniences and easy access as well as view of a scoreboard. I hated HR, it was dirty, falling down, no facilities, poles in the way of your view all the time, no atmosphere, terrible to get out of, I could go on.

I love the Ricoh. The atmosphere is no worse than HR on most days and for the odd big game (less likely now were in lower leagues) it's better.

So, you and me go to the forum, what happens? Who wins?

Also, I know that stadium design is a large and complex beast with many factors to consider. Are most fans up to that? I doubt it.

So we end up with a rather fruitless exercise which we can by definition only have limited impact on. The kind of impact (what food, banners/pictures around) that we could have on any ground, old or new, but until now the club had no interest in.

You know what? I was never asked about Highfield roads redevelopment either. Or many many other things. You know why? It's not really relevant what I think compared to the experts and the stuff I can change can be fixe at any time.

I don't want fans deciding where the dressing room is. I don't even want the current manager doing that. I want people who have done it before and have clear researched reasons for their decisions.

I'd like to know how many new stadiums have been built in England in recent times where fans of the club have had an impact on the design or features.
I doubt any.
The fact that we weren't consulted on the Ricoh is a mute point.
This 'unique' opportunity is bollocks. If the fans say we'd like padded seats like the emirates in sky blue they won't get them cos they'll be too expensive and when the stadiums empty the players won't see each other...

You also have to consider that all the things we are supposedly getting a say in are things that could pretty easily and relatively easily be sorted at the Ricoh.

My point exactly.

To be honest I went to the forum with an open mind but when Garlick started going on about the Ricoh I realised she's about as unbiased as RFC running the forum.

True, if the club were willing to pay for it.
Also have to bear in mind that as a multi-use facility there might be certain things acl couldn't agree to, such as painting the away dressing room brown
