Most Shocked About A Result (2 Viewers)

Bad - Sutton Utd. My dad told me the result after he collected me from a mates birthday party (I remember it well). I refused to believe him as I thought he was winding me up. Ive just about calmed down now...until that is the FA Cup 3rd round each year and they start reeling out all that sentimental giant killing stuff. showing those yellow bastards and that manager with his fucking poetry! On the plus side I’ve never been shocked by a defeat since.

Cov 5 -1 Liverpool - who saw that coming!

Main thing that annoys me is that so many still talk about it as THE non-league beat top division game, but Norwich have been beaten by non-league opposition in the PL era and it's pretty much been forgotten about. Yes they lost to Luton who are more well known than Sutton but with it being the PL era it had all that the extra money that goes with it which makes it more than comparable IMO.

Other thing that annoys me is so many people seem to think we lost to Sutton the year after we won the cup.

Possibly most disappointing rather than shocking because we went ahead and then seemed to sit on it rather than try to get another so when they equalised at the death it had a kind of inevitability about it because we could have made that game safe. Then the penalties were awful. It was such a massive missed opportunity.

I can still see in my eyes that corner given deep into injury time down other end on left. I suspect that eventual defeat had long term impact on Coventry City. Highly likely that we would have made the 98 FA cup final . We should never have lost that tie, home to a level 2 team when we were in great form.

Luton were a full professional team and Norwich were at the bottom and not winning any games

The Crewe JPT game (whatever it was called back then) 0-3 home leg.

To make matters worse we had something like 25 shots and dominated the game, but they just kept hitting us on the break.
I was born in 1988 so never had been to Wembley pre 2017 - after that game I harboured a deep resentment towards Crewe. They always beat us at the Ricoh aswell. I’ve softened my stance since we’ve been to Wembley twice since and I went New Year’s Day a couple of years back and we thumped them 5-0.

that game was so 1 sided, how we didn’t score is still beyond me - they’re goalkeeper played a blinder and we hit the post twice - they had 3 fucking shots and scored them all.... it’s making me angry thinking about it

I’ll also add the 4-1 defeat at Oxford in 2016. I have seen some abject performances over the years but that was appalling. Knew that afternoon we were going down - 1st time I ever left a game after 60 minutes (When 4th goal went in) and I wasn’t alone.
I was in the bar for the whole second half - weren’t we 3-0 down at half time?

Best result : That’s a hard one as we have won so many final matches to stop up and then there’s the Wolves promotion match in our promotion match, as a classic the 4-3 v Spurs in cup final season and the unlikely 3-2 v Man United and the 4-0 v all conquering Liverpool team. All contestants for best game.
The worst only one, the 2-1 defeat at Sutton United in FA cup. Just took any gloss there was left from our Cup Final triumph and will always be shown in any future third round previews, I would say the cup win two years before might well have saved John Silletts job.

Yep! Both those things too. But it’s the magic of the cup...

Second leg was also memorable as it did lead to the whole Dan episode on the radio. Another five minutes and I reckon we'd have been level on aggregate. Should have been an absolute whitewash over the two legs though.

Still fuming at McSheffrey for that. We had a free kick and McSheffrey took it and didn’t beat the first man. I was screaming at Murphy to take it and lump it in. Convinced their defence was shot at the time- one more shot on target and we’d have scored again

carsley got his tactics wrong - we didn’t attack until the 80th minute

Have to agree 100% had we lopped the ball onto the penalty spot I’m certain we would have either scored or got a penalty Crewe had gone, I’ve never forgiven McSheffrey over that typical billy big bollox attitude.

YES!! They were gone, had conceded twice in 2 mins in pretty much stoppage time.
All he had to do was get it over the wall with his left foot, in behind the back four.... they were all over the shop....
Was fuming too.....
But SO should have been ahead after first leg. I used to get the match stats up and ask people what they thought the score was....

All of the above; like everyone else the Sheffield United game was for me the biggest disappointment. Should have easily won the home game, their keeper put on the best display at HR that I have ever seen - listened to the replay on the radio and it was absolute torture. I'm so glad to have I-follow these days - never enjoyed the radio commentary without the pictures.

The first game of the season after we signed McAllister (which was a huge deal) vs. Forest was pretty shocking and not often discussed on here. The biggest signing in our history, a complete statement of intent, we're now in the big leagues - or so we thought......in typical fashion Forest walked through us and strolled to a 3-0 win at HR. It was an absolute shambles, Big Ron with all that money somehow managed to turn a team that was comfortably around 13th-15th place in the league for a couple of seasons into nailed on relegation candidates. Shambles.

Further to the suggestions above, I’m gonna throw in the 2-0 victory over Wigan in the first game of the Mowbray season. They had just come down and were favourites for promotion. We hadn’t scored in the whole of pre-season I believe and were starting the season with an unproven kid up front. We all know the rest.

I was surprised by our second game in league one also. We were 2-0 up against Bury I think and looking very comfortable in my eyes. Drew the game 2-2 and I think Thorn only lasted one more game.

Liverpool 5-1 thrashing in the 90's. Bottled my regular bets that day. Normally spent £5 on bets, usually went £1 on 1-0 win and a £1 4-0 or 5-0 (which ever looked better odds) against any team city to win of course and also £1 the top city striker to score first goal at the time and also £1 killer or borrows (again good odds, as they were the pen takers) and finally £1 on 1-0 and our top scorer to score first, as a double. Never expected to score so many so only backed a 1-0 city win (hoping for a miracle in the last minute), never expected to get a penalty against them, as we never really did, so mightily pissed off (but glad as well) when bugsy scored the first from a pen and scored the 2nd. So as usual won no money.

I think Forest went on to get relegated that season, after we made them look like world beaters that day. (Was it a Kevin Campbell hat-trick?)

Pre internet days and we were waiting by the radio for the result of our first ever European game. Hoping for a chance over two legs the announcer started with ....”Trakia Plovdiv 1” we cheered so loud to celebrate a 1-0 first leg defeat that none of us were sure we had heard the rest correctly “ Coventry City 4”

I never understood not allowing Murphy to take it - it was effectively last kick of the game. If it was ballsed up then Crewe would have scored but it wouldn’t have mattered.

thst moment called for all 10 outfielders crowding the 6 yard box

Every time we beat Liverpool in the 80s was a shock. Finally beating Villa was a shock (been going for 14 years before that finally happened)

Seen a load of "bad" shocks but Sutton had to take the prize

Beating Liverpool 4-0 when they were about the best team on the planet was probably the biggest "nice" shock, enough has been said about that game.

Nastiest shock- where do you start :) One was perhaps Derby at home 96/97 at the end of the season, we were in the middle of a huge relegation dogfight and really, really had to win- went 1-0 down, equalised and the whole ground was jumping, promptly conceded again and lost 2-1. We all thought that was it, it was over, we had no chance at all & we were down. Every other relegation dogfight we thought we could do it, but there was something about that day which made it feel impossible. Then results went our way, we had to win at Spurs & Boro/ Sunderland had to not win, and the rest is history...

My Dad has often talked about an 8-1 tonking by our friends up the M69 in the cup as one of his biggest nasty shocks, I think that was the mid 60s, bit before my time though..
I think Leicester went on to win the League Cup that season so that doesn't make that result so, er bad.

Doesn't matter - statistically, Norwich are the last 'top flight' club to be knocked out of the FA Cup by non league opposition - It took us 25 years to shake that monkey off our back. Statistically, at least.

Best - away win at the villa, when Moldavan scored & final whistle it was mayhem, also was my sons 1st away game, he left with big smile & half a seat stuffed up his jumper
Worst - away defeat at Reading in the full members cup semi final 1987, we were outright favourites to win & managed throw it away on penalties, stood on the shitty away end stunned afterwards,

A brilliant brilliant day. Maine Rd was fantastic, right next to their fans, a terrace, a great Cov support and a last(ish) minute goal to wrap it up. Perfecto. Sutton didn't happen.

As many have previously stated - 'Not many defeats shock or surprise us'. But Sutton has to register shock even amongst those who were not even born at the time. I viewed it as such a foregone conclusion, I wasn't even bothered about getting a ticket and on the day me and a mate travelled over to Brum for a few beers and went to watch WBA v Everton (we never got in.)
I witnessed the December 1992 demolition of both Liverpool and Villa. I was at Ewood Park for the 1993 midweek 5-2. I saw us win twice at Villa Park but the result that left me genuinely in a state of disbelief was our 2-1 victory at Anfield in April 1997. Liverpool were closing in on the title, we were fighting a seemingly hopeless relegation battle.
Liverpool absolutely battered us from pillar to post - Only Oggy's brilliance and some wasteful finishing from Liverpool kept the game goalless until Robbie Fowler scored early in the second half. 'Floodgates', we all thought. The onslaught continued (at probably a lesser pace) until we somehow kind of got two corners from which we some how kind of scored from both.
And then the final whistle went.
In summary, from a CCFC perspective, I would do it thus: Arrived at Anfield, got off coach, spent 90 minutes being utterly pummeled. Got two corners, scored from both, got back on coach.
