Contract a two way thing

Looking at the play offs, really positive

Ignite the fanbase

Will meet the players later but won't disrupt preparations, will go down at HT if he feels he needs to do

Why the outcry?

People were excited by the thought of Mowbray and now we have him.

The short term deal works for all parties; he keeps us up, he's in a stronger position to negotiate for budgets, recruitment etc and the club know they have a manager who can do the job.

Surely both of those aspects are pleasing for fans.

Agreed, he could keep us up and subsequently get snapped up by another club but we have retained League One status. The very appointment of Mowbray is evidence we can attract a good calibre of manager. So if he leaves we start again with the comforting knowledge there are people out there interested in managing CCFC.

Worst case, he's rubbish and we get relegated. We simply don't renew his contract. No firing or settlement costs.

But of course, this is SISU so of course it's glass half empty. They are the devil and Waggot is Hitler reincarnated, blah blah blah.

Saying that, even if he's signed a four-year deal there's the possibility of poaching - it's just that it seems more likely to be temporary in these circumstances imho.

Everything about the club seems temporary at the moment - the manager, half the squad, even the ground - nothing is tied down for more than a year or two. It doesn't really feel like the actions of an owner intent on building something at CCFC...

Land a decent manager for how long ?

8 weeks.

If he does well and we win a few he will be off to a better and bigger club, if we go down he will be off as he will cost to much for League 2.

I agree with this partially. The bit we are missing is we approached him and needed a saviour urgently. He accepted that task because he's out of work and needs a foothold back in the game. Its a win win for him. Succeed and he may be approached by others or fail and nothing lost by him as we looked a lost cause at the beginning etc etc.
However TM must have some influence on proceedings as we approached him and he may want to see the enormity of the task over a few months before committing longer term. If he succeeds and gets on with SISU's puppets and is promised some backing in the summer then I would feel comfortable that he would not have taken the job on if he did not expect to stay and show some loyalty - provided the backing is there. The urgency which the appointment was made suggest there was no way a long term deal could have been sealed so quickly. Both sensible by TM and Waggott if I'm honest. It all depends on what TM says in the press conference and if he confirms his intention to seek to stay past the end of the season given due backing and a reasonable contract.

Shame, got to try and be positive at this stage that we have some sort of scenario in place to land him for the long term, providing all goes well!

Hopefully this is just good old fashioned pragmatism, people complained about Pressley talking about his desire to change the DNA / play the Coventry way. It was never clear what his objective was though. Rarely was actual achievement ever mentioned.

Mowbray has one objective, keep the team up and we'll see what's what in the summer.

Baffled by this deal. TM is either covering his options very well so he doesnt get messed around by SISU or we are in trouble whether we get relegated or not, makes no difference.

Team full of loans & 1 year deal players, very few beyond the end of the season.

Not sure this gives a better chance of staying up or not, what is his motivation for keeping us in League 1 if he could be off at the end of the season anyway?

I did think that about SP but apparently his deal was a 1 year rolling contract I think so had some get out possibility for the hedge fund. 3 months for a manager is new territory! Typical SISU though, everything done on the short term with one eye on bolting for the exit !

He's already said though it was "both sides" who decided on the contract length.

As for Pressley didn't I read somewhere that they have/will pay him 18 months salary, what's that? £300K? OK, so I was hoping for longer but a week ago we were all moaning about Pressley, so we're in a better position than then.

If he does well then I would expect talks to extend his contract.

'Play-offs aren't unrealistic'
Mowbray told Sky Sports: "With the size of the club and its history they should be higher up the division. The challenge is to keep them in this league and then push on to try and put them in their rightful position which is a lot higher than it currently is.
"I think if we're going to be really positive we should look at the top of the league. If you can win a few early games, we're only 12 points off play-offs, and there's no reason we can't still challenge for them."
"I was sat watching Norwich on Sky at the weekend and they've won six on the bounce recently so I think the message to the group will be really positive. Let's win some games. The more I think about it the more I think TM answered the SOS from Waggott and will not commit to league 1 until he sees how the dust settles at the end of the season with promises to keep by SISU including some financial backing plus bringing in his own staff, with a decent contract linked to successes? None of this could have been achieved in such a shortened period of time.
It's a foothold back in the game, he gets to see how the land lies with every incentive to do a good job short term and in control of his own future. he will way up his options in the summer as other clubs might be interested but I suspect his loyalty will be with us if he gets what he ask for regarding backing, or at least most of. I do see SISU backing that if he shows reasonable success between now and the seasons end.
