Murphy departure draws nearer (2 Viewers)

@ Torchy..................Take note of the dates in conjunction with this Westwood statement........."Six months ago I would have signed a new deal, 12 months ago I was asking for a new deal, and the year before that they promised me a new deal but nothing ever materialised and I don't know why," he told the Daily Mail.

Could he not just be spinning a line and telling fans what they want to hear, just like tabb being homesick living just a 60 minute train journey from London...

@ stupot07......I remember vividly Westwood asking for an extention to his contract, and I've just found this on BBC 606 webby.....A post made by our own OSB58..It reads thus................. oldskyblue58 (U14321924) posted Sep 1, 2010 Think that the club have actually made a mess of this. Any of us would seek to get the best for ourselves from our employers and if it cant be done move on. 1) why was he only offered a contract 4 weeks ago. He is our star player and as usual we play brinksmanship and as usual we mess it up. AB (arrived end of May) could have made him the priority signing but obviously didnt 2) I fully support RR in his stance on the finances and staying within budget but surely that budget could have been rearranged to keep Westwood 3) No reason has been given why Westwood said no, is it financial, a clash of personalities or lack of ambition. Clearly he wasnt happy with what he has been offered and lets be honest Westwood has never come across as unreasonable now has he. 4) People talk of his head being turned, no doubt there is a an element of that, but what about the way the club have chased King compared with their pursuit of Westwood. Personally I would look at that and think something was not right 5) why for heavens sake draw the line over the transfer two days before the deadline when there has been no interest. All that says is that Westwood has to go in January ! I can see why Westwood feels bullied and equally I can see why the club had to draw a line. I know Westwood has much to learn, (he thinks so too) but not sure ranking the pressure up the way CCFC have done is the best course of action now given the club had months to deal with this and gave Westwood 4 weeks! Think i would feel bullied by it too especially if i had spent months asking for a new contract Somehow I feel cheated by how this has been handled. Not the finished article but looks like CCFC have let a quality player slip through their fingers again.

At he was offered an extension in August 2010 nearly a year of his contract left to go, it's hardly the same situation as murphy. And as the above post mentions we don't know whether he rejected it for money, to play at a higher level or because of 'lack of ambition'. It's all well and good saying rearrange the finances but how far do you go to secure your best player. Murphy is on a reported £8k per week (probably bollocks but the only figure we have) that's higher than the championship average £4.4k and x5 the league one average wage. How much should we of offered murphy to get him to renew his contract early? And would you sign new terms that would likely kick in immediately that reduces your salary?

Kuszack !!!!!!!! Yeah that will happen won't it, we let Murphy go cause we can't afford his wages so I'm sure we'll be able cover Kuszack. Turnbull former Chelsea reserve again will want to much, a slight chance if he just wants first team football but in reality he'll have better options.

I'd rather Murphy.

Same here I don't want him to leave nor do I believe he will be off I think he will surprise us and sign for us because of the form he has this season and also he won't get the playing time he wants so I think he will wait to see what happens to decide anything but I am being optimistic and saying he will stay ,fingers crossed, and hope he stays with us !!! #PUSB !!!

He's off, he has a family to think off and the simple fact there will be clubs offering twice what we pay for twice as long will make it impossible for him to stay. Good luck to him I say he leaves with most fans blessing.

So one of the few remaining experienced players left, and one of our best players last season, is to join Huddersfield for nothing. It leaves a youngster to fill the breach with all the pressure that entails in an environment that has to be among the worst you could wish to develop as a footballer.

It is abundantly clear that all the energy of the club's higher ups is not going into the football side of things. It is going into litigation and ways to accelerate the demise of ACL and the council. Murphy is, alongside Wilson, somebody who would be only too happy to sign. If we can't be bothered to offer contracts even to the likes of him then frankly nobody running the club must be all that bothered about the team. People who have met them say that Fisher, Seppala and so on come across as passionate about on-field matters. Actions speak louder than words and all the actions show these fans are being led down the garden path.

@ stupot.......It's irrelevant how much, or the timing. It's the fact that SISU did F**k all about any of the "Better players" and sorting out contracts untill it was "Way too late".....This includes when they first took control of CCFC. We can all argue till the "New Stadium is built" or CCFC "Folding" which will happen first. (I think the latter) The fact of the matter is SISU will never be good for our Football Club, as long as they've got a "Hole in their Arses"

Subsequent events don't necessarily suggest the players were the ones making it up, do they...

One or two players complaint about how their contract renewals were handled can be put down to sour grapes but the number of times this happens to us indicates something isn't being done correctly. Didn't TF or ML recently admit it was the club at fault over the King renewal?

Don't see why you can't agree a new contract before the end of the season, if you're worried about relegation then put in a clause covering that.

Of course it's relevant. If Murphy is on £8k pw (~£440k with on costs approx 20% our entire wage bill), how much would you have offered (champ ave £4.4k pw, league one ave £1.5k pw) and when would you have offered it? And if you were Murphy would you have accepted those terms knowing that he could probably get more elsewhere?

You are right sisu are shit at letting players run down their contract, but in hindsight offering Westwood a deal a year before his existing contract was due to expire isn't that bad, and look at Gunnar great first season wanted a new deal although he had 2 years left, followed it up with a disappointing second season, the rejected a contract when he still had a year left. It's all right saying improve their terms but every time you do that for every other player you're increasing the wage bill and increasing the amount of losses.

I maintain that I don't believe that sis will build another ground.

@ stupot07......You want to watch Grenduffy, Torchy, etc, etc, don't read what you've written mate. You'll be accused of "Making up" wages. What you are doing is "Pure Supposition" as to what Murphy is on financially. We had supposedly got rid of the "High Earners" Gunna, Westwood, Wood, etc, who were said to be on £8-10k pw....Kind of "Blows" your figures out of the water a little regarding Murphy doesn't it?

I can't take credit for the "Pure Supposition", that goes entirely to Joe Bernstein from the Daily Mail...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...y-sell-Carl-Baker-Leon-Clarke-Joe-Murphy.html

we brought Gunnar from a Dutch reserve team I doubt very much if he was a "high earner". Do you really think we weren't spending half decent wages when we signed murphy and baker when we were in the championship....

...look at what gillingham a chairman said about Cody last summer (signed after murphy and baker)..

Gills chairman Paul Scally said: “I’m delighted. I’ve been working on the deal for around three months.

Coventry took a lot of persuading because they paid £500,000 for him from Norwich and were paying a huge amount for him on wages, probably treble to what we are now paying him.

“They are pretty sore about their investment but we are pleased.”

http://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/sport/scally-delighted-to-complete-mcdonald-3382/

You still don't think we pay much, check jordan Willis new car https://mobile.twitter.com/J_Willis19/media/grid?idx=11&tid=408286035375046656 not bad for a 19 year old league one player who's plays just 32 career league appearances. I always remember seeing Jay Tabb rocking up at the Ricoh fresh from signing from Brenford in a beat up 6-7 year old BMW.

@ stupot...But it's YOU who's saying Murphy is on £8k pw not me mate!...Think about it for a minute. the high earners were got rid of, the 8-10k wage.......Then why bring in another 8k pw player??? doesn't make sense does it??? Like I said, "Pure Supposition" on yours and Joe Bernstein's from the Daily Mail... behalf of Murphy's wage.

Yeah, it was probably more like an average Championship wage for a goalie, goalies are usually amongst the lower wage earners at the club, goalscorers the highest.

I'd say it would be something like £3500 per week or £180K pa.

This is from 2012, about when he signed on I think... http://soccerlens.com/finance-in-english-football-wage-disparities-between-the-divisions/92692/
New figures show that:

Average Premier League wages have reached £22,353 a week – before lucrative bonuses – or £1.16million a year.
Average Championship earnings are £4,059 a week (£211,068 a year), less than a fifth of players one division above.
In the bottom division, League Two, their weekly pay of £747 is not much more than the national average.
League Two earnings are also 30 times smaller than those in the Premier League.

£8k pw is what's in the public domain, it's up to you to prove that's wrong.

We didn't get rid of Westwood because he was a higher earner, he was replaced by an almost like for like replacement who shared the same agent. You think that agent isn't going to use his knowledge of westwoods contract to get murphy and him the best deal?

Yeah that's the average, and if that was the average why was our entire wage bill something like c£10m (all staff?) the season we got relegated, c£7m last season?

What are you on about? It clearly suggests that we had to pay him off, my point was not that he left or took a paycut it's the fact the chairman points out how that he was on "huge" wages at cov.

What you're saying here is like saying because Muhammed Ali and Brian London(Blast from the past) have the same agent, Brian London should pick up the same purse as Ali. A absolutely MASSIVE gulf in class says NOT!

@ stupot07....A direct quote from Murphy or Pressley on what wages he's on will do.

So in actualy fact we know no players' wages ever then.

Well... apart from one particularly unremarkable central midfielder, who did indeed quote his wages to me once...

@ Norman......You highlight my post stating a "Direct quote" from either the "PLAYER HIMSELF" or the "Manager" Now! if you can get this "particularly unremarkable central midfielder" to tell us all what wage he was on...Then I'll believe you too :D............I'm very good friends with Roger Gibbins, ex Norwich, Spurs, Cardiff, and Cambridge player. I know what wage he was on at Cardiff, but I'll never disclose it for a couple of reasons. I wouldn't betray his trust, nor would I want to.....Unless you're Grenduffy, and either lying out of your backside, or just being a "Bighead" Your, or anybody's wage should only be known to yourself and your boss.

You don't have to be friends with someone to get a direct quote...

Although in your case a direct quote is never a hope in hell, friends or not :(

33 players in the relegation squad, not counting the academy players adds up to £7M at the average, so it doesn't take a huge hike to push it up to £10M.
That sort of bill was not unusual for a club in the Championship, you just need a few on inflated wages and you are there (Freddie Eastwood).
Also how many managers was the club paying for that season, I think there was a fair old turnover.
