So in actualy fact we know no players' wages ever then.

Well... apart from one particularly unremarkable central midfielder, who did indeed quote his wages to me once...

didnt Eastwood leave his wage slip in a skip once ?

I think Kevin Kyles wages were also quoted in a court case

33 players in the relegation squad, not counting the academy players adds up to £7M at the average, so it doesn't take a huge hike to push it up to £10M.
That sort of bill was not unusual for a club in the Championship, you just need a few on inflated wages and you are there (Freddie Eastwood).
Also how many managers was the club paying for that season, I think there was a fair old turnover.

Although of course the irony is one of the few direct quotes that SKyBlueKid is all for came from Eastwood... who said he was on £1.5k pw!

Court cases are the best way to find wages!

Acually I retract my earlier statement... in that case we should be able to find out half the squad's(!)

@ Norman....Here you go, a direct quote from Westwood.........Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: "Six months ago I would have signed a new deal, 12 months ago I was asking for a new deal, and the year before that they promised me a new deal but nothing ever materialised and I don't know why. I want to see how things go but I am being slaughtered in the papers for it like it is my fault. I am being made to look the bad guy which is unfair."

@ stupot07....I once said that the sale of Turner to Cardiff was "Reported" as being £750k and got "Slammed" by Grenduffy and a few of his "Chums" What is the difference between YOU saying the same and me? Double standards maybe?

It's only double standards if I slammed you for it, which I don't believe I did as I was under the impression it £750k. So no double standards on my part.

@ Norman......You highlight my post stating a "Direct quote" from either the "PLAYER HIMSELF" or the "Manager" Now! if you can get this "particularly unremarkable central midfielder" to tell us all what wage he was on...Then I'll believe you too ............I'm very good friends with Roger Gibbins, ex Norwich, Spurs, Cardiff, and Cambridge player. I know what wage he was on at Cardiff, but I'll never disclose it for a couple of reasons. I wouldn't betray his trust, nor would I want to.....Unless you're Grenduffy, and either lying out of your backside, or just being a "Bighead" Your, or anybody's wage should only be known to yourself and your boss.

I know what Richard Dunne earned at one of his clubs and I know what Juan Pablo Angel paid for his car Insurance. Woo hoo.

If you know a player and what he's on, wouldn't it make a far better contribution to this conversation if you didn't mention his name and just gave the level he plays at and a figure?

Also, I'd wager that the majority of modern footballer's contracts are so complex and layered with bonuses and rights and tax avoidance scams that even the players don't really know the exact figures they come home with week to week. Eastwood's £1.5k/week was, if I remember rightly during a time when Ranson was big on low basic wage (£78k/year: low! HA!) that was topped up with bonuses like playing, goals, etc (though in Eastwood's case I imagine that didn't add up to much).

One of Ranson's later signings, who didn't come with any prior reputation to speak of and wasn't really a first team regular, claimed he was on £8k pw...

So, you're telling me everything Ranson said wasn't strictly true?

And you wait until now to let me know this?

tbf to Ranson (it's fucked up when I start defending him!) he did at various fans' forums correct certain impressions, such as we got a huge wedge of cash for Borrowdale etc.

It's all fucked up though, it suits chairmen to hype up values so people renew season tickets... but also suits them to play down costs too when it comes to negotiating with other players!

Cost cutting exercise then...

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...-news/coventry-city-keeper-joe-murphy-7257303

Resigned to losing Murphy, City’s development director Steve Waggott said: “Joe was one of the Championship players in our squad who had a reasonably good deal at the club, so I think he and his agent are looking at other options and seeing if they are more attractive than staying another year or so with us.”

Meanwhile the very few options who could actually do well for us between the sticks are finding themselves clubs (Legzdins goes to Leyton Orient today. Would have suited us great, 27 and was Midlands based). I'm absolutely certain now it'll be Murphy or Burge, and I'm 99% certain it'll be Burge.

Why hasn't Murphy gone then? It's been a couple of weeks since the "talks" so I would have thought that was more than enough time to make up his mind.

My guess would be that his contract is until 30th June, so City are paying him at present. This does seem to happen, especially in lower leagues. The movements will no doubt start in July.

Could be. Good luck to him whatever he decides to do. Good keeper.

Yep, it'll be one of his last contracts and he's got every right to go for the most he can for his family. He's been classy while he's been here too, never looked like his head was turned. He's done us proud considering he had huge shoes to fill, good luck Joe.

I agree with that, done his job and acted professionally. No surprise he is leaving though. He is one player I think it would have been straight forward to hang on to. I understand he was prepared to take a reduction in wages, which suggests our budget really is slender.

The goalkeeper we need is a Bill Glazier type who will be dependable between the sticks and an inspiration for a new team to be built for an assault on promotion to the top.

Won't happen with this crew in control though

He was happy to take a pay cut but that was before he had more options available to him

He's obviously happy to sit on the Huddersfield bench for more wages. He can kiss his place in the Republic of Ireland squad goodbye just after he had broke back into the squad
