Deflation is seriously bad news if it goes on for more than a few months.
most economists seem to be predicting a return to inflation soon followed by interest rises next year.

I still have the letter from around 1990 when the mortgage rate was 15%

This works OK for net savers, if you are in debt (like the Government) it is not so good is it!
