LOL yeah cos Doug will walk if we’re in the relegation places.

You really are being pathetically obdurate over this and I am glad you aren't part of our setup. Which really is going in the right direction after years of neglect.

I do question why you are being so willingly negative, inventing conflicts there is no evidence of and willing it to fail?

Crikey there’s some guff on this. You’ll never find a more unique industry than football. So nothing normal applies. King is in charge. Robins a very close second. No one else is. They’ll just throw opinions in.

What are you on about? I just don’t believe in Director of Football type roles which a lot of owners seem to like but I’ve seen nothing but bad things result from them.

What’s moved this club from rock bottom to where it is is Mark Robins. Doug has been here five minutes and done nothing of note.

If she’s making football decisions then yeah I want her giving interviews post match and responsible for what happens on the pitch.

She was presented as basically a fitness coach and now is on par with Robins or ahead of him? Not for me thanks. Players and fans need to know who the boss is. I can’t think of when the chairman bringing in “help” for a manager or generally involving themselves this much in the organisation of the coaching staff has worked out well.
Jim Smith comes to mind. That worked out well.

There’s loads of examples. Newcastle had issues. Chelsea have had issues where players know the manager isn’t in charge and rebel. That Liverpool dual manager experiment. Ken Delieu on the bench It just doesn’t work IMO.

Appoint a manager and leave them the fuck alone. If you knew what you were doing you wouldn’t be the money man. Problem is money men always think because they struck lucky in one area they’re experts in everything.

On he whole I don't like DoF roles either. I tthink tthe manager should be responsible for all things to do with the football side - coaching, tactics and transfers.

Butt at the same time I don't think he should be overruling a doctor/physio when it comes to injuries for example.

So I guess it depends on what exactly a performance director does. If it's managing all the different aspects like this then that's fine. She should be involved in the process of hiring coaches as part of her remit. However, for me the manager has final say. I don't think she'd have anything to do with transfers though, possibly monitoring the success of them on an ongoing basis to make sure we're getting value for money.

What nonsense.

King is in charge full stop. Robins isn’t close to being in charge.

Robins is in charge of the the first team results, he’s not even in charge of all things football such as scouting for example.

Seems it up to Robins who he signs as assist manager.

Owning the club comes with no responsibility. No one is going to sack him. The person responsible for the club is the manager. It’s his job on the line if we don’t progress.
Surely the personal will only be judged on factors they control?

The whole point is that the manager is no longer responsible for the majority of the club and as such shouldn't be judged to the same standards as previously.

If the signings aren't good enough, the recruitment team will come under scrutiny.

If the coaching isn't to a high enough standard, the coaches will come under scrutiny.

If the team isn't set up right and in game decisions are poor then the manager will come under scrutiny.

If things are going wrong off the pitch, the commercial team will come under scrutiny.

Who decides where the blame lies if the club isn't progressing is the major point but I guess that's why a performance director was appointed.

Claire Marie Roberts position at the club is by no means unusual...and is a growing trend.
Fwiw Mark Robins speaks very highly of her.
He would say that hes a recruitment company, i hate these fluff pieces that are a cover for selling their services as hes bound to say more teams need directors.

We haven't got a Director ofFootball over Robins? You are inventing things. Performance Director is a totally different role.

I just find it weird that someone who is paid to provide the best coaching set up and the best facilities to Robins is attacked when they make decisions on the coaching set up.

It's crazy. Robins seems happy with it and for all we know he might have requested it? People are doing a 2+2 = 5

What an odd take. You can’t see the impact King has made relative to Sisu.

You are obviously allowed to not like them but if you have seen nothing but bad things you are only looking for evidence to support your theory:

Liverpool, Man City, Brighton some of the biggest or best run clubs in the country all have directors of football. Like everything and especially like with a manager it all depends how good that person is but it certainly does work.

I have an idea which I have been refining over the last few seasons.

Think I will be doing the Champions League this season as well 'cause I can't see anyone else doing it like this. Should take two to three seasons for everything to take shape but what you will eventually see applied to the teams in the CL can also be applied exactly the same to individuals from teams as well.

To kill two birds with one stone we should also get the first real balance of strength of the leagues in Europe and that should filter down into teams and then to individuals in those teams.

It'll be fun to find out if this has legs or not.
