"AS Roma, the friendly programme: 3 August against Olympiacos, 6 August against Coventry City and 10 August against Everton. All matches at 5pm (RELEASE RELEASES)"

At St George's Park, behind closed doors.

At St George's Park, behind closed doors.
Bit annoying but probably don't want 3 home friendlies in a week both win terms of getting people to turn up and not fucking the pitch up before the season starts

Is there actually any facilities at St Georges for spectators, even if its just a few hundred?

We're planning a far better pre-season than the debacle we had last year. Hopefully we'll be match fit for the first game and won't run out of steam after 60 minutes like we did away at Leicester.
First game back in the Championship away at Bristol City was much worse. Although arguably excused by Covid as we hadn’t played in months.
However I thought we were the better team for the first three quarters of the game, then ran on empty for the last 20+ mins.

I don't understand this?

Why have a game 4 days before the start of the season? What if someone gets a knock?

Surely you give the players a solid 7 days with no game before the season starts?

Behind closed doors game against good opposition with plenty of chance to balance legs and get fitness under belts.

I do.

What's your cut off, no games a week before the season, two weeks before, a month before?

If you look at all sides in the Premier League and Championship pre season schedule (and has always been the way with ours) they leave a clear week between their last pre season game and first game of the league season

Curious as to why we think we need to

Not sure if this is MR’s way of trying to get the team ready to play every 3-4 days.

It looks like we've learnt a lesson from last year, we are set up to be way more professional in our preparation, which I think is very encouraging.
Also it looks like we will still have a small squad, but the quality is better with more genuine quality on the bench.

I'd like to see another striker, and some cover at RB and maybe off load Dasilver for another LB. Then we're good to go.

So the team at SGP are FA people (obvs) and very experienced at running preseason camps for international teams. One of the things they offer is arranging friendlies with UK opposition so I suspect they'll have approached us, asked and we've said yes.

It's a training game. I very much doubt this would have happened unless our performance director thought it was a good idea to get players in optimal shape for the season.

This is all in line with giving us a quicker start this season. Better opposition, higher intensity but more in terms of injury prevention and load management

Got excited that this was being played in Rome for a second. Would have been a good away day
