Whilst Sisu consistently claim they will build a new ground outside Coventry they are very quiet on where it will be.
Coventry is surrounded by green belt land. Upon greenbelt land the emphasis on planning is reversed. For example, if I wanted to build a football ground on the old Courtaulds site, planning permission would be permitted unless the council, or local resident grounds had a good reason for it not to be allowed.
On greenbelt land the presumption is no development will take place unless proven necessary. I.e. if I wanted to build a football ground opposite Coombe Park it can be rejected without any real reason being given other than it is on the greenbelt. It would then be down to me to prove why it had to be built, using one of the following reasons:
Providing opportunities for access to the open countryside for the urban population - Well it doesn't really do that, more the opposite in fact.
Providing opportunities for outdoor sport and outdoor recreation near urban areas - Might be able to use this one, although still unlikely as its not sport opportunities or recreation. This would be more used for something such as a golf course or park.
The retention of attractive landscapes and the enhancement of landscapes, near to where people live - Definitely not this one.
Improvement of damaged and derelict land around towns - Not much of that type of land around here
The securing of nature conservation interests - Unless its a home for retired sisu directors then no.
The retention of land in agricultural, forestry and related uses. - Carrots growing in the penalty box?
So its highly unlikely it will be greenbelt land. So looking at the map below there isn't much else outside of Coventry that isn't greenbelt:
Other than Brandon (which we are all aware would be difficult to get planning permission for anyway) there is only Ryton (already half built on). The idea that come about recently of land by Warwick Uni also appears to be greenbelt, the only bit that isn't is within Coventry, but Joy doesn't like Coventry so it wont be there.
Not that it needed me to write this for people to realise it, but the idea of a new stadium is just rubbish. If anyone can see any other brownfield sites outside of Coventry then I would be interested to know.
