On the topic of midfielders, I see Douglas has been told by Brentford he has no future. Would bring great experience and able to pop up with the odd goal. (not exactly a goalscoring midfielder but better record than Fleck)

I was hoping that we might see him played in an advanced/attacking role under TM and we we would then see if he does have the talent to make a difference but from what people are saying it sounds like he is still playing quite deep. Doesn't seem to effect the game much there.

TBH, If we could lets say get rid of Fleck, Finch and Thomas in order to bring in a midfielder like Hessenthaler (rate him highly but know we would have no chance of getting him, but someone in his mould) from Gillingham, Id go for that, even if it did leave us a bit short in defensive midfield cover.

"If" get rid of Fleck, Finch and Thomas....how easy would that be?

You say bring in Hessenthaler, who you feel we would have no chance of getting, then qualify it with "someone in his mould." That sounds like you haven't got any idea who you would target 'if' you were the manager?

Building a football team is so easy right? What is Mowbrey playing at?

Guess that's why I don't work in the world of football!

But what I mean is whenever I have seen us play Gillingham in the last couple of years and he's played, he's always been involved in their game, and looked half decent.

I don't think we would get him solely because he would command a fee what with him being a mainstay in their first team. Even if we do have a budget, what chance have we got trying to sign a first team we from a team who finished above us last season and will probably do so this year? Or should I be saying 'let's buy him at all costs' knowing full well that isn't going to happen?

Jake Hessenthaler is only 21 and has come through the ranks at the Gills. I think he is 1 year into a 5 year contract ending in 2019...so yes a fee and a pretty big one I would imagine. Also Gillingham seem to be pulling clear of their financial situation having bought back their ground and since landed some hefty transfer income. With Justine Edinburgh as Manager there seems to be a feelgood factor about the club, I can see them being top 6.

Basically I agree with your assessment, very good player and no he won't becoming to us.
