Talking to the Dons Trust last night regarding their new stadium. This is essential for them to progress as they literally can't make any more money than they are atm.
They are building an 11000 seater with an expected build cost of £17-20m. Eventually it's hoped they can extend it to around 20k, cost of this will be in the region of £15m+.
The land is being purchased by a housing developer, possibly aided by a supermarket for an estimated £40m. The club will get half for free which will be more than big enough for what they need.
Now AFCW are supporter owned and aren't loaded by any means so it's not like they're going to be spending over the odds. You're talking the basic requirements for what's needed here.
This does shows the true cost of what a new stadium will be. If you half the cost of the land (in that area, real estate is roughly double what it is round here) for a basic 11k stadium the initial cost is £27-30m. For a basic 20k which in terms of capacity is hopefully what we should be aiming for we'd be looking at somewhere around the £45m mark.
The basics doesn't include top end restaurants, a hotel, large conference facilities ect which are a big part of the revenue streams that Mark and Tim are talking about.
If you add on the costs of these extras once again you've got to ask, where is the money going to come from?
