Ole Gunnar Solskjaer??? Not aware of any rumours or other threads on him.
He was mentioned in connection with Pompey in 2011, apparently Fergie advised him not to rush into English footy management - but he had "informal" (???) discussion with the Vile afterwards.
Maybe he wants to get into English footy management, but NOT with too big a club. A L1 club the size of City might be perfect for him. Would it suit us I wonder??? (Fergie mentoring unofficially perhaps?)

As I said "but NOT with too big a club"

The Vile are much more difficult to make a big positive impact with in the Premiership & he (& Fergie) know that. Cov in L1 is an entirely different proposition. A ready-made reasonable squad, a good fan base, excellent facilities & a great place to cut his teeth in England before swanning off to MU in readiness to take over from Fergie in 2-3yrs.

Doubt the board would have enough ambition to even look outside this country, let alone go for someone totally out our league

He didn't take the Villa job because he went back to Norway for his family, and not very long ago. Had informal talks with Lerner and said he needed to talk it over with his wife. The next day he turned it down!

Until recently none of us imagined being in L1...so why imagine a "no" from Ole?
The "family" thing has been used as an excuse many times before...it could have been just that with Vile too.

To be fair, the club has fooked a few of them over too, with promises of non existent funds (Dowie), followed by a career with SSN.

We have done names before too though...Aidy Boothroyd Came with a growing & glowing reputation, Chris Coleman, Peter Reid, Ron Atkinson...we've tried. It does make you wonder what it is that makes CCFC so difficult to make a success of doesn't it?

I have a completely unsubstantiated theory that most clubs have a similar success rate when it comes to managers. If we start with Big Ron to the present day, we've had 11 full-time managers. Out of those, we could probably classify three as being successes - Strachan (initially!), Nilsson and Black. Three out of 11. Sounds about right to me; I'd lay good money wagering that most teams will find around three good managers for every 10 or so. The key is to hold onto them when you find them.

Fair point well made Colonel...although why have our other 8 had such shitty records that we ended up where we are now? THAT doesn't happen at every club. Most others seem to have (guessing here) 3 good, 1 stinker & 7 mediocre managers out of 11.

I think it is so random. Maybe the changing room leader likes and respects the manager, which positively affects the rest of the team. But that same manager can go to another club and have the ire of the changing room leader. Who knows? I just don't think that there is too much of an art to manager selection. Our next guy might be a huge success or a massive failure, but we shouldn't be surprised either way.

Yes. I think you're right which is why I got behind AT to the end, & will do the next chancer too

By the law of averages, it must be about due to get a successful one!
