I'm still of the opinion it might be best to sell him now, if the rumoured interest is true.

Of course if he goes there will be people forevermore saying "if we'd kept him we'd have made the play-offs", which would seem unlikely at this point in time.

But if we keep him and DON'T make the play-offs we may miss out on the chance to make a head-start on the rebuild for next season, knowing funding was there to secure players early. So as I think a) is highly unlikely I'd rather not miss out on b), if it's available.

Also, people talk about getting in the play-offs. Even if we do, it's irrelevant unless we WIN them. Otherwise we're in the same place we'd be in if we finished mid-table.

Don’t tell David that
Too late  . I didn't mind suggesting it, as I know it'll never happen. It's just that he's a similar workhorse, but of an obvious lesser athleticism, and not as good (still think he could do a job as part of a front two, alongside a nippier player- we'll never know, as wrong age for our model !)

This division is annoying, in that - the fans perception/enjoyment of the season aside, there is no difference between finishing 7th or 21st. Mind you, even if they incentivise it by rewarding teams for league position, the players won't give a toss, unless the money ends up in their pockets.

Luton, Millwall, Sunderland, Hull are all at home. I would be very surprised if we only win one of those games. Blackpool haven't won in 10 league games, their last win being against our sicknote team.

good point. And there was me thinking I was being optimistic 🤣

I worry Blackpool are going to pick up a bit of form now McCarthy has taken over. Luton are always difficult to beat and Hull have had a bit of a resurgence under Rosenior. Sunderland losing their star striker could go in our favour though I guess. If this season pans out in a similar fashion to last, our away form will improve towards the back end.

You watching him play atm?
Think people assume that because he's at that level, meh, but a Championship player imo. Obviously not Vik, but he'd do a job for a couple of seasons.

Edit: wouldn't happen, because no resale value.

How come if he’s never played in the Championship before then if you reckon he’s that good? Massive teams like Swindon & Cambridge got rid of him ffs

Just said I thought he might be better than the level he is currently at. Some players progress, others regress. Dom Hyam was slated after his defending in the 6-2 defeat at home to Yeovil in League 2. Fans here were then upset that we only got £1.5m from Blackburn for him a few seasons later. All about opinions.

Could be famous last words but McCarthy is a poor manager. We haven't beaten Luton since League 2, in quite a few attempts.

There’s no easy games in the championship but there are easier ones and in that final run up I’d be happy to chose that run.

Feb is huge if we’ve got playoff ambitions, we play 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th (and Rotherham)

View attachment 28252

March we play exclusively bottom half teams including all the bottom three, huge if you think we’re going to get relegated.

View attachment 28253

Every possibility here of a decent run that sets us up for the run in. Fadz Godden and Eccles back, maybe one more signing.

What do people think we can get out of this?

About time someone answered. You are right it will be a real pointer. I expect a mixed bag cementing a solid mid table finish

If Gyo stays:
Wins against Rotherham, Huddersfield, Hull, Wigan
Draws against Luton, Millwall, Sunderland
Lose against WBA

15 points from 24.

If he goes and isn't replaced, I'd downgrade that to about 10.

Sky bet have us at 20/1 to win the playoffs and 100/1 to go down…

Make of that what you will

Fans are more likely to bet on their team to go up than down?

Blimey. Sack the data scientists. Shmmeee has nailed it.

In all seriousness at this stage of the season I can’t imagine there is a lot of money going on us either way.

Obviously there’s a natural feel good factor after yesterday and therefore heightened optimism (side note; surely we all prefer SBT that way as opposed to the usual glass half full lot getting over excited) but there’s reasons to be at least slightly hopeful.

Keep star players, ideally get one more AM in, continue to get the injured players back and who knows.

Tbh as long as we have an exciting end to the season, even if it’s a long shot to actually make play offs, I’ll be happy. Don’t want a boring nothing to play for end!

RE: the first post, I think we'll pick up enough points over Feb and Mar esp. at home to keep us within a win of the top 6 but I think we'll fall away after that. Defence is still one injury away from a horror show (Huddersfield isn't a big enough test to say McNally can spot Fadz like for like) and we're dependent on Vik to maintain that level.

We've had numerous chances where a win could of taken us top 6 or within a point of top 6 and failed to take any of them. Expect that to continue and we will end up solid mid table in May.

assuming we keep Vik..

West Brom - L
Luton - D
Millwall - W
Rotherham - W
Sunderland - D

Huddersfield - W
Hull - D
Wigan - W
Blackpool - L

15 points from 9 would keep us ticking over and assumedly in the hunt or on the periphery at the business end. Probably a tad too optimistic during a difficult run of Feb fixtures but you never know!
4 out of 4 so far  (y)

Haha. Good spot, hadn’t even checked. I won’t be taking your crown anytime soon, I’m sure 😉

Draw Saturday then 😭
ha I keep meaning to ask Nick to remove that. It's a bit like an adult having winning the sprint race at primary school sports day on their CV 😅

I fear a draw on Sat too FWIW :cautious:

if I get the next 4 correct, I’d like a new title. Something along the lines of ‘mid season block of 9 prediction champion’. It’s boring being a ‘well known member’. Cherish your badge my friend 🤣

Could be completely wrong here but I think it may have been moved for the FA Cup. Saying that, should have still been in that block somewhere I’d have thought. Poor research from me either way haha

Wasn’t in the OP as it isn’t been arranged yet I think.

Fun seeing how many wrote off our playoff chances. Preston is a tough game and I suspect we’ll lose cos it’s Preston. But the rest of the run in to the break is very winnable. 3/4 wins would be nice and maybe a draw thrown in. Would leave us on 58 with 8 games left to get maybe 13 points for the play offs?

We would probably need the points in the bag before travelling to Middlesbrough. I think it’s very unlikely we get there but it’s incredible to even be in the conversation with all the disruption and poor transfer activity.
