Agree that on paper Palmer appears to be the odd one out as such however I think because of that he is a great option on the bench to allow us to change formation if we need to

Referring back to those stepping stone comments referenced in other threads I’m not sure Robins will like the “this won’t be my final” transfer line!
Be pretty unusual if we signed him, to keep him from age 24 to say 32 ! Would think most players are ambitious, and if he does well for us and we make millions into the bargain, happy days!

Been contact, fee agreed, down to the player now.
Im presuming this has no bearing on sheaf - unless its the stamenic money, or DK taking that calculated gamble on Vik and Gus going. Which I think they will, you can see Gus being a panic buy late.

Was a little suprised by his quotes a week back. Something along the lines of "this transfer won't be my last".... ambitious guy clearly. But not in line with MR's comments about players using us as a stepping stone.

I wonder if Anderlecht coming in might change things? Although clearly the Championship and England is an upgrade, they are a big club!

It’s almost certainly factually correct. Very few players stay at clubs for a decade now.

He played more of the friendlies in the midfield 3
Featured at LW in the two that mattered, Bremen and Everton. Playing CM v Getafe and Stevenage where we swap teams at HT (or thereabouts) isn’t really the same.

I doubt Palmer will make many appearances at CM this season - if he comes on at AM and we shift to a 4-2-3-1, maybe. He isn’t a CM.

I agree however he has only 2 real options to get game time currently. LW or CM

Don’t get fixated on the fact our preferred formation will be a ‘flat 3’. We will flex that from time to time depending on opposition and game situation.
As a fall back maybe but we have played the same formation throughout pre season

I think we’re definitely onto something going after 6ft plus players so much. We’ve lacked a lot of physicality in recent seasons.
But what about a Doyler type who’s going to insist on some protection from the ref when Tatsu, EMC et al are getting clobbered?

Yes, I don’t deny 433 is our preferred formation. We’re not going to chase a game in pre-season so we probably wouldn’t change formation. I’m confident we’ll play both a 4231 and a 424 at times.

I actually think we have been playing 4-2-3-1 all pre-season. Rudoni is very much playing as a 10 with 2 behind him.
I don’t think he’s playing a 10. But he does have a very free role when we have the ball. He picks up the ball deep a lot but then will also find the space in the number ‘10’ position at time as well

I don’t normally like the signings from abroad but this lad does look quite good.

Worried he won’t be able to play as deep as I think we need however
Depends if he's the sheaf replacement or not. If he's to replace the role Hamer had he may be ok.

He doesn’t play like a Sheaf replacement and it’d feel silly to try and play him there given his numbers last season. I don’t see this as he signs and Sheaf goes

We’d need another as well as Madsen if Sheaf leaves - no one at the club is able to fill his role 100%
