This fella looks a better bet than Kyprianou.

Hope we get it over the line but is he more of an 8 than a 6?

Yes but MR has been talking about good passages of play with good rotations taking place. So I do not think the roles of the three in midfield is as cast in stone as some fans think. Yes he is a box to box player but can play a more defensive role. So seems to have the skill sets to suit. We are trying be quicker on the front foot going forward this season and that requires a bit more fluidity in our positional play.

I think we will be more direct and hit more early passes to our forwards .

Already seeing that with Dovin's distribution. Doesn't go with a traditional long ball but sometimes by passes defenders and hits the more forward midfield players. Mixes it up more.

There is definitely more intent from all the players to get the ball forward more quickly

We played like it against Getafe . Eccles was spraying the ball out to either flank at every opportunity
45 minutes and a few passes

We aren't going long that much this reason, what you will see is the passing and possession MR likes but with the need tempo.

I wasn't suggesting we would go long , I said we were hitting our forwards earlier . That doesn't always mean a 50 yard aimless punt , it's a ball down the channels or one into space over the top for Simms to chase down .
I ,like you , still think we will be more possession based but a lot more direct than last season's slow build up play.
It's nice that we have the players where we can mix it up and keep the opposition guessing

Was a little suprised by his quotes a week back. Something along the lines of "this transfer won't be my last".... ambitious guy clearly. But not in line with MR's comments about players using us as a stepping stone.
But that's against the MR comments around player's doing just that usually?

Not really.

I think Robins wants to avoid players thinking they can have one good season with us and then get a bigger move. I don’t think he expects them to stay beyond 2-3 years …. That’s the model in fact.

Yeah that's what I'm alluding to, have misread the statement from the player, maybe,IDK?

I like Palmer, think he can make a difference, if I could I would just keep the squad as it is now as they have bonded really well seems a really tight group with quality, it would be a shame if any go but understand it if we need to balance the books also but just please keep sheaf and Milan 🙏

I thought Palmer looked OK in the bits I saw vs Bremen, the problem is he just does not deliver that final ball
Lovely nutmeg pass for Torps goal against Everton.

Looked top quality against Wolves in the cup too.

We'd miss his creativity if he went, and he's a great option to have on the bench when we need to unlock a defence.

Seemed like normal Palmer to me. Capable of some very good stuff but too often decides to do something fancy than play the killer pass or take the shot. Got lucky a few times getting free kicks IMO when he'd just held onto the ball too long and got muscled off the ball.

If he could concentrate on being efficient rather than showy he'd be playing at a much better team than us.
