Perhaps he should have not played most of the season like Shaw! Don't get it!

He was really poor after his injury and we have a glut of attacking midfielders in form. Added to this that Southgate has never really warmed to him and I think it was obvious he wouldn’t make the squad.

His best position is as a 10 and he has Foden, Bellingham and Palmer ahead of him.

Spurs actually seemed to go backwards a bit when he returned from injury, seemed to lose a bit of their directness. Not to say he's not a fantastic player but it's horses for courses and it didnt seem to work as well. We are also just blessed to have a mass of better talent in his role for England. Shame, would love to see him light it up, but there will be other tournaments he can force his way into.

He's not been very good since coming back from injury and there are plenty of others who play a similar position, not a big surprise here. With someone like Shaw it's different considering if he's not fit our starting left back is likely going to be a natural right back.

Has he thrown a tantrum and stormed out of the camp? Weird that he’s the only player named and he’s left so early.

Can maddison play right back then? Alexander-arnold played very well the other night too.
Is right back in midfield? Great he played OK against Bosnia, he can't tackle, is too static & has no positional sense but great that he can hit a pass across the pitch. Against a better team it will be like playing with 10 men. My criticisms against him playing in midfield are also true for him at right back & there are better options there too.

I would have been asking if I was in the squad and if I didn’t get the answer I wanted I would have said no problem see you later I’m off for a holiday and a rest pointless being here.

So you think maddison gets in ahead of palmer foden and Bellingham? Why waste the place. You mention options then dismiss someone who can play in more than 1 position.

Do people think we should just pick a squad of 26 attacking players?
No, but justify why the likes of Shaw, Maguire and Grealish are almost certain to be on the plane.

They've either shown no form or simply not shown this season. Maguire, apart from his goal was bang average in the semi and was only in the team because they had an injury crisis, Shaw is a crock and Grealish hardly played for Manx Shitty towards the final third of the season.

There are/is more than very capable alternatives for each of those players.

It's a fact that we have a glut of talented midfielders and it's unfortunate that Maddison is the one that's misses out but I'm biased because he's a Cov kid like us all and I can't see further than that

No Maddison doesn't get in ahead of them but neither does Alexander-Arnold & there are better options at right back as well. We have a 26 man squad but taking somebody because he can cover more than 1 position, and in my opinion not very well, is also a waste of a place.

understandable, he's been pretty bad since he came back

unlike shaw he plays in a position where there are loads of great options for England

They froze him out in the early part of his career but now it's form I think.
Doesn't have to be a petulant response,he has a child now doesn't he?

Shaw is on the plane as if fit he is by far the best English player at a position we aren't great at.

It's not at all comparable

Not sure that including Grealish is right (not disagreeing about Maddison's exclusion) Grealish is the antithesis of a Southgate in terms of professionalism. Will probably play very little, yet will invariably appear completely rat arsed if we do well/get knocked out.

Im pretty sure it is right to include Grealish, hes just won the premier league again and won the champions league last year. Unlike Kane whos managed to make a good team worse again.

I'm not sure how Shaw is even being questioned. He is the only natural option for the position. As it stands we have trippier starting at LB if he doesn't make it. Yes he's been crocked, but it is 100% worth the gamble.

Maddison doesn't get ahead of the others as he isn't as good.Grealish I wouldn't take either. Southgate doesn't like Maddison that's pretty obvious but on this occasion its an easy choice for him.

Shaw and Maguire play positions which we're not overly blessed with talent in. We've got a huge number of very good attacking midfielders and right now most of those other options are in better form than him. Plus some of them can play across the three AM positions, Maddison is pretty much limited to playing the ten.
