No more heroes (5 Viewers)

One of the callers last night made the observation that there is such a turnaround in players that none are here long enough ever to be classed as a fan's hero such as dion, regis, wallace, hutch etc..

I have compared the matchday squads season on season for the mid October fixture to see how many players make both of the 17 man squads
Oct 2012 v Oct 2013 - 5 players in both squads
Oct 2013 v Oct 2014 - 8 players in both squads
Oct 2014v Oct 2015 - 4 players in both squads
Oct 2015 v Oct 2016 - 4 players in both squads

Jordan willis is the current squad member with the most CCFC appearances at 89.

Currently i don't think there is a hero in our squad, not sure what player names go on the back of shirts now

Heroes dont have to be long standing players. As said on the other thread Thommo because more or less an instant hero. Any player that puts himself on the line time and again.

Have to say only player to come close to that this year is Bigi.

I don't think this is just CCFC though, it's modern football and that's the way it is unfortunately.

Exactly right
Our team has had comparison after comparison with our own team and other teams and it is a few thing related
Modern ways
Lower league money restraints
Rubbish players
Loan reliant

Lots of posts about it's just our Club, and that's 100% fiction. It's lower league Football full stop, moving on

I agree its partially a symptom of modern football that is exacerbated the further you go down the league however a continual churn of players there is less identity between the players and the club. Take any decade and there will be a few players spring to mind readily from each decade, the noughties very few sheffers big Mo Doyle (not great but associated with the period), the teenies - 7 years gone possibly Carl Baker

Who would want a hero unless you purchased a shirt with TOSSER on the back

I think it's a symptom of
a) the league we're in or lower
b) the turnover of managers + budget cutting currently
but increasingly until this summer the shortermism of the owners.
What really disappoints is the rapid sales of home produced talent
I would love to believe we could build a team around Stevenson.
Before I get jumped on
Yes I understand the rationale of what happens.

Based on current day expectations - Chris Stokes? The only player of the current squad who constantly showed 110% commitment and effort, even through the bad times.

Bigi is a player who genuinely has an affinity for the club and therefore never gives up.

Not saying either are the best technical players in he world, but when you look at the current squad at least you know those two will be fully committed and aren't just there for the pay cheque. I highly doubt the likes of Sordell, Wright, McCann etc feel the efforts or disappointment of a defeat in the same way.

Shit at maths. Nobody can give 110%. and is that supposed to be "The"....... Well you started it!

Poor effort numbnuts, nobody picks posters up on this forum unless like you, are a patronising twat

I think you're missing a 'they' within the above sentence. You've shown you have the intellect to spot where, so I won't spoil the fun.

I don't pick posters out, I picked you out following your attempts to patronise me.

Anyway, I'm done now. Arguments/one up-manship /whatever this is, on an Internet forum we all participate in because we have a common interest, isn't for me.

No pal... You embarrassed yourself by deleting your post, which in turn deleted my reply, lying git!

I genuinely don't know what you are talking about. I haven't deleted any posts - I didn't know that was possible. More importantly, why would I?

Feel free to ask any of the admins to check whether I've deleted anything.

I suggest you go back to the Charlton match thread, that's where this enthralling repartee started.

You mean the one where you attacked my post?

My Grammar shield disappeared when you deleted your attack post on me arsehole.
Just a minor point but without the comma this reads a bit different to what it probably should . :D
