The Tykes agreed a fee with Manchester United for the 21-year-old midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Coventry following an earlier spell at Scunthorpe, but the Northern Ireland international will not be joining the Tykes.

"We've done everything we could as a club, but Oliver wants to pursue another direction and we wish him all the best," Hill told Barnsley's official website.

"Fortunately it has been a quick process and we haven't lost too much time. It's part and parcel of recruitment, some you win, some you lose. We've already moved on to other targets to add to our exciting new signings so far.

"I'm still positive and optimistic for future signings and looking forward to our pre-season training and the start of the new campaign."

Newly-promoted Championship rivals Huddersfield have been linked with Norwood, while relegated Coventry are also keen to keep hold of him for next season.

Is this a rumour or did you just take it from the other thread? If it's true, which I don't doubt it is, where do you find out about these things?

He's in Huddersfield now having a medical,

He seems a decent chap, sounds like he didn't string them along or engage in lengthy nonsense talks.

Would be great if he failed his medical as they found he wasn't the right blood type.
He's sky blue negative.

Huddersfield Town have opened talks with Oliver Norwood and now appear in pole position to land the Manchester United youngster, Sky Sports understands.
The 21-year-old midfielder has never played a first-team game at Old Trafford and is now ready to leave the club after his contract expired.
He has already held talks with a number of teams and was offered a deal by Barnsley, but their Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield have now made their move.
The Northern Ireland international is now expected to make a decision shortly on his future with the Terriers confident they have done enough to persuade him to join them.
United will be due compensation for Norwood as he is under 23.

Was anyone really gullible enough to think Susu would seriously try to sign Norwood and that he would pick us over championship sides ?

Meanwhile... Leon Best is near completing a 3Mill deal to Blackburn!!!
Shows how cheap Norwood would be.

Did we have any sell on clause for Best? I doubt we wouuld have but worth an ask :(

Presumably he knows Kean from before although I would have expected him to want low-end Premiership team after his early season goals contribution at Newcastle before his injury, unless of course Blackburn are offering silly wages.

What sort of player can we expect? Sounds like he did well for you last season despite going down

Better player than Clingan?
